My friendship is not up for sale or rent

Someone who was until recently listed as a friend here has a habit she knows I do not like. At least once a month, she "asks" her friends on LJ to plug her store. Her wording, however, gives the request the air of a demand. Frequent mentions of her bad health add a huge layer of guilt to her posts. I always come away from reading these feeling ( Read more... )

Wow...people ask each other to do that? *boggle* No one I would call a real friend would, I'm sure. Geez, that's actually kinda creepy. I mean, it's one thing if you *believe* in a product/store/whatever your friend has and say to your other friends, "Dudes, this is totally cool and I love it." But to be asked? That's icky. :/

It's one thing if I promote my own books. I believe in them and mention them to folk I think would like them. It's also what I do day in and day out so it comes up a lot in my daily entries. But not only would I never DREAM of asking/demanding a friend to advertise them, I'd probably turn ten shades of red if a friend who liked one said so in their LJ. I'd be flattered and squishy, but definitely turn into shy-geeky-embarassed girl pretty quickly.

I can't fathom asking someone to whore out my work. Ew. >:/

I'm sorry you have to deal with such a person.

If she'd asked once, that'd be one thing. But she asks pretty much monthly. :P At least she stopped emailing me about this shit.

It sucks, but I'm not losing any sleep over it. I thought about it a while last night, and realized she's never done a single nice or friendly thing for me, so I'm not losing much except another person who expects something from me.
