Hurray! We ordered a new stove today. It's very nice, an Amana with a glass top (the best sort they sell at Sears). The heating element inside the oven is covered, so we don't have to worry about ruining it so much. With delivery, haul-away of the Stove of Doom, and a 5-year maintanance plan it's about $600 I think. It'll be delivered ( Read more... )

You're making me drool! Good lunch & thanks for ordering what I would have!

That sounds like a pretty good deal on the stove. Hopefully, now that you also have a fire extinguisher, you won't need it. That's how it went with us. As soon as we got one all went well. I was always afraid of frying foods anyway. I've only had one or two grease fires that were easily put out. Ray laughed at me because it scared me so bad. If I remember right, I told him never to ask me to fry anything again!

Stop teasing about the ostritches! That's mean. Must know your plan. (I hope you know I'm kidding with you)

Sorry!

I don't fry foods, and am very careful with oil. I try to use as little as possible because too much oil in foods makes my tummy hurt.

It's not teasing, it's dire but vague warnings.

I've always been afraid of the grease popping back on me, no matter how careful I am. And greasy foods bother me, too. We usually bake, grill, or boil - depending on recipe used.

Good idea about stove delivery. I wasn't trying to spook you or anything. I just hate it when they're not careful.

Just give a more direct warning whenever I need to bury my head for protection.

And, yeah, I knew you knew.

I'm glad you did give me a heads-up. I'm totally protective of the bamboo floor in the living room. I <3 it.

Don't you know what'll happen if I let loose ostriches in Baltimore?

Yes, it's quite for the best that these things not become public knowledge. Some meddling do-gooder might try to stop me. ;)

Yay for happy new stove! I hate ours. I've gotten used to the gas thing after a lifetime of electric (and Corran prefers gas), but our dials have only a quarter turn to regulate the flow, so there are basically three choices of heat: uselessly low, medium, and boil/burn. And the oven is slow to heat up, and the broiler is down on the floor which I don't consider very child safe or good for my back, and the whole thing leaks heat like crazy making me never want to use it during the summer.

So I completely understand the desire for a new one and I congratulate you on yours! :)

I'm hoping this one is well-insulated. It's a mid-line price for stoves that aren't the super fancy ones, so it should be pretty good.
