There are interesting definitions of "won" floating around. Leaving does not mean we should be leaving. I break with a lot of people when I say we need to be thinking of keeping troops there for decades. The place is a still cesspool of corruption and violence. They still have bombing attacks directed against not only the Americans but more troublesome in its own way the actual government of Iraq. The foreign mercenaries operating in country are better equipped and better trained than the actual military there. Various religious extremist clerics practically exist above the law cause no one is crazy enough to try and arrest them. Iranian and Al Queda forces are operating there freely

Well, I did say this view is not one held by many. I do think Iraq will be in some pretty lousy shape when we leave and probably wont survive with it's government intact more than a year or so.
As to the unrealistic and unsustainable, well we probably should have thought of that before we invaded. If you do what empires do then you should have the responsibilities that empires have. To me, it is a matter of taking responsibility for our actions.
