 What makes you You?

If you woke up tomorrow with Superpowers, would you consider yourself the same person?

What about StarTrek style teleporters... Yes, a duplicate is made but in a very real way the atoms and electrical patterns that made up "You" will have ceased to exist... Or, what about when "atmospheric anomalies" split you in two? Which ( Read more... )

If you woke up tomorrow with Superpowers, would you consider yourself the same person? You know, with my intuitive abilities, there was a time when they had to be taken away because its overuse was making me ill. It was bascially the opposite of this scenario. I felt horrible for a little while because those abilities were a major part of who I was. I consciously identified those abilities with my own self. Not having it around was distressing not just as an identity, but it's because I do use them, even sparingly, just to function. But over time, I recovered but I was still able to help people because I think it's my nature. Eventually, those abilities came right back to me without anyone giving them back to me ( ... )

i think that having something like superpowers is not something that changes who you are. Just like you aren't defined by a job or a school. However, like those things, having superpowers would highlight things about you, they might drive something dormant into larger being, give you opportunity to act on previously unattaniable desires. but the attitudes and beliefs behind what you did with the power would already be there.

ofcourse on the other side... i don;t consider myself the same person i was in highschool, though on a molecular level i am pretty similar. enough life happened that my impulses, my desires and driving actions are not near what they used to be, though i still find myself seeking out people from high school on facebook... and becoming a mom has definitly had its impacts, thouogh i view that more as me moving from one aspect (madien) to the next (mother)

maybe in the end its life that changes us, a cumilation of events and our reactions to them...

Being someone with the super-power of awesomeness, I would say that I am the very same person.

And everyone knows that "Evil Riker" always has some sort of dubious facial hair.
