i am thinking about buying a greyhound bus pass and going cross country. is that crazy? i've never been on a greyhound before. are they gross? i've heard horror stories before i guess...there are just so many places in the us i'd like to see, so it seems like the most affordable way to do it....give me thoughts

I've rode a bus from Houston to L.A. and back, and from San Francisco to Houston. The people are gross. The bus was cold and it only stopped every couple of hours at gas stations or fast-food joints. But I enjoyed the L.A. trip because I was with my best friend. On the trip from San Francisco, however, I was alone, and it was the longest two days of my life. So I recommend going with a good friend, and also staying somewhere overnight, as sleeping on the bus is difficult.

By the way, I like that song, "Oh, Sister"!

heya, thanks for the info...do i know you? i think i've ex-ed the greyhound option and am taking amtrak into consideration. do you live in houston now?

my greyhound trip sucked. i went from new york to nebraska with the french kid you met and maybe its in part because he was needy and i was irritable and he basically ended up hating me, but it was terrible. plus he developed some gross infection on his skin and he looked like he had leprosy. however this is partly my fault since i did make the mistake of going to the bus station at 4:30 am straight from mars bar. still they lost my luggage (which thankfully was eventually found), only stopped at hardees and wendy's (they could have done just a bit better with the fast food!), i had to transfer a ton, AND there was this really annoying aging hippy dude from vermont who kept talking loudly about rootbeer and the rainbow gathering and then later another mystic looking dude with long white dreads got on and the annoying hippy dude tried to commune with him but the mystic dude totally dissed him so the hippy finally shut the hell up
