Yes, i am rediscovering an Ani Difranco album.. but what else is a live journal for, if not to proclaim previously unfelt feelings by quoting people who know how to say what you mean.
isn't ani great for that; to articulate things in just the right way, in just the right amount of words, and with just the right amount of bitterness needed. she's no joni, but sometimes, sometimes she's close.
she is also great to rediscover as an artist every few months or so; knuckle down was a rather nice little surprise this year, its one of her best in the last little while. although, revelling/reckoning has a place - for me at least - from time to time as well.
anyway, how are you doing mister jordy, haven't heard from you in the last little while, you've been quiet, and i've been busy (and stressed out and drinking vodka and passing out watching dodgy movies most nights.)
Danielson! i've been ok actually. Been swimmin heaps and doing not so great financially. But this coming week is all about the job hunt. (and vodka)
I think Ani does bitterness a notch or two higher than joni at the moment. (perhaps thats my lack of joni knowledge?).. but "Untouchable Face" is way up there with the most bitter songs i've ever heard. Just the way her voice quivers and breaks on some of the words like she's just found out her guy isn't really hers.
"think i'm going for a walk now i feel a little unsteady i don't want nobody to follow me 'cept maybe you i could make you happy you know if you weren't already i could do a lot of things and i do
tell you the truth i prefer the worst of you too bad you had to have a better half she's not really my type but i think you two are forever and i hate to say it but you're perfect together
joni does bitterness in subtle ways which says things perhaps in an even more bitter and twisted way. seemingly bitterless songs have vocal inflections and pauses and accents that just show a level of deep 'running through the veins' type of bitterness. joni is good, joni is very good, joni is god. the end.
glad you've kept at the swimming, unfortunately i've slacked off the running, haven't been in a few weeks, and feel awful because of it - i've also been stressed and eating awfully bad, so i've managed to put *on* weight - which isn't what i was aiming for.
some good company and a few hours watching serenity, though, sounds rather ideal, give me a call :)
