Hard things to do

Feb 10, 2008 21:03

Generating random numbers is a hard thing for the human brain (at least, for this human brain) to do. When my mental capacity goes down, the ability to be actually random is one of the very first things to disappear.

How interesting. I wonder if there are any studies on this. Lexicat?

Offhand, I recall that when people are asked to pick random numbers, they pick prime numbers way more often than random, and rarely pick even numbers.

Rest assured, people are just horrible at random numbers.

Hm, interesting. But why is it so difficult to be random? Any ideas?

I am curious, so I'll have a look when I have some spare brain capacity.

Cool, let me know. I did some cursory Googling, but couldn't figure out the right search terms.
