Filter/Voice - I'm assuming Tosh is on this filter as support staff? Let me know if not. hopeless_hacker July 29 2011, 18:58:58 UTC
If there's some reason for his paranoia that's so extreme it's persisted onto the Barge, then you're...probably not going to be able to do anything much about it. I mean, imagine if every other doctor in our world was a Dr. Copley. I would watch everything done to me and my Inmate like a hawk, no matter who was doing it, and I don't think I'd care about their feelings either.

Confronting him will only make him think you've got something to hide. If he thinks you're up to something, then the burden of proof is on him and he just won't find anything. I hate to suggest this because it's not exactly pro-active, but I think the best you can do is continue to be an exemplary doctor and hope that it knocks the wind out of any conspiracy theories he might have.

Which isn't to say I'm not furious on your behalf. If anyone suggested I was out to maliciously cause harm in the process of doing my job....

[She sighs.]I'd also recommend you minimise your contact with him, because if it's that bad then anything you say will just ( ... )

I understand that. I am, however, furious that he tried to gain access to the infirmary through underhanded means. It seems like he was doing it to spy on us.

I'm worried for what this is going to mean for Victor, he told me that I was "lucky to be allowed to treat" his inmate. I'm worried because it took a very long time to get Victor to trust things, and his paranoia can wipe it out in minutes.

I wanted to slap him when he said it. I had been giving him the benefit of the doubt, and assuming he'd meant me to be incompetent rather than malicious. Boy am I wrong.

I had been trying to stay away from him, but... Bloody hell Tosh this is making me so angry.

How was Victor behaving while you were having that discussion? Assuming he witnessed any of it. He's been working at the Infirmary for a while now, it might be the case that he's been with you for long enough for Eddie's paranoia to seem as baseless as it is. It's hardly the case that Inmates only ever learn from their Wardens; the reverse can be true as well.

At first he was rolling his eyes. However, when I decided to talk to Eddie about it, I took him out into the hallway so he wouldn't hear me dressing down his warden.

I spoke with Victor and advised him to humour his warden, at least until he's be hurt seriously enough.

As someone with ingrained paranoia myself and experienced with deal with others, it's something that you struggle with every day, but other than Tosh's advice, I'm afraid there really is nothing any of us can do. Outside is the enemy, only those who agree are friends.

I've made it clear that I am a friend to Victor and given my proximity I did offer, but Eddie immediately snapped at me that he could handle it, so it's not you.

His world is utterly different. Time is the only cure to this. I'm sorry he treated you so harshly.

I'm worried for Victor. I'm worried about how he wanted to have access to the infirmary medication.

I'm just glad that I stopped him from doing that, even though I expect I probably made him worse. He's asked me all sort of questions about pain killers and the strongest ones with them...

[Sigh.]

This is just not what I needed to deal with right now.

So far as Victor goes, he's genuinely puzzled by Eddie's attitude and it's likely to harm his standing than the infirmary's.

I'll keep an eye out for him, but I don't like going over the man's head with his inmate. Not to say I won't should the need arise, but he's painting us in an awkward corner.

I don't like going over anyone's head with anything... this is just completely I don't know. I'm not going to get into a battle with him over everything.

I am me!

So many animals, Martha Jones. I hunted last time.

I'm glad you're you, Coyolxauhqui, though I need to admit I found it fun last time when I was an animal.

I expect they'll probably do a fair bit of hunting one another. How do you feel about perhaps protecting some of the smaller ones?

leadsthestars July 30 2011, 03:41:24 UTC
Why should we protect the smaller animals? Bigger animals eating smaller animals is nature.

thegooddrjones July 30 2011, 05:22:10 UTC
But we're not in nature at the moment, we're aboard the barge which is full of people who don't understand what they've turned into or how it works.

And there are people who are going to take advantage of that.

I can't think of a way to address it without heightening his paranoia without obliging him for a time. But when it comes to an emergency situation none of us are going to be able to bother with obliging him. And given Victor's existing paranoias I find he'll likely increase them behaving this way.

It's just unreal. I mean, the only person who ever even acted like this a bit was Judas, and then he came around eventually. I'm simply worried about him, and angry he tried to lie his way into working here.

Most dystopias I find have a great distrust for the medical profession. When one wants access to ways to manipulate someone, the first way is usually through drugging and medical care. Though that the idea still stands, even now, is troublesome.

If he wants anything to do with the drugs, the man needs to be given a list of their intended uses if it's so important to him. Perhaps encouraging him to do the research will at least make him knowledgeable enough not to jump to conclusions.

I know that, Doctor, and I'm trying to not... I'm trying very hard not to be angry, and I was very good not to get angry with him over it in person.

He's done the research. He's argued with me that the fact that he's done the research meant that he should have been given full access to it and to the infirmary supplies.

Not long after he'd arrived, he'd asked me about the strongest sort of narcotics and sedatives and their effects. It should have sent up a red flag in retrospect.

She stopped talking with me after I mentioned I was studying to be a doctor. Maybe it's something about their world, and not just about Eddie.

I expect there is and that the Doctor's right about how people have used medicine before.

I'm just not certain to what to do in this situation. Jane's had a go at me as well, about the coma thing. They both expressed loads of hostility at me over it.
