Back in Ottawa and Connected

Where to begin? I drove to Ottawa yesterday, arriving in time to unload the car, then get to the rental office before it closed, and get to the campus in time to grab food and make it to class.

First elevator I got onto wasn't working entirely right. The button for my floor would not work. Went to the next floor down and grabbed the stairs from there. Lucky I didn't have a dolly load of stuff with me when I discovered this. Unloaded the van, using the other elevator, then made it to the rental office just before closing to tell them about the elevator and arrange for a new parking spot. Then it was off to Carleton, where almost anything that would usually sell me food turned out to be closed. A sign with the "new hours" (that start today) was up. Some stuff is closed for renovations during the summer, and a lot is on pretty short hours, but at least there's some stuff that'll be open at times useful to me.

Class was interesting. It's an intro to stats for psych sort of thing. Basically it's a prof who doesn't really understand math, trying to teach stats to students who don't understand math. I can see that it's going to be somewhat painful, but at least not hard. I'm only taking it because it is required for the psych minor. Curse you folk(s) who got away without having to take this course! Or, good for you, I envy you.

Tonight's class is Abnormal Psychology, which should be a whole lot more interesting.

And now, concerning Rogers, Internet, Phone, etc.

In April, I arranged to have my service suspended for a nominal monthly fee over May and June. I paid Rogers off as instructed, and all was good. I called Rogers about a week ago to make sure everything was good and that it would all be reconnected by the time I got here. The person I talked too said everything on the record was good and it'd be reconnected on July 1st as I'd asked.

I got here to find the digital cable box complaining it wasn't authorized and the cable modem not connecting. After my class, I call rogers on my cell phone (No internet, no VOIP phone line). After well over an hour on the phone with Rogers, most of that spent on hold, I've gone from no service to everything I should have, and a bill for $370.81 (all their error) to $10 credit. Took a bloody long time, but the person in the business office I eventually got to was very helpful.

Oh, I was on hold so much, and for so long, that the hold music was actually beginning to repeat... for the second time.

Off to TT come Friday. I'm hoping to make it to the convention by sometime between 3 and 4.

Oh, if you're trying to reach me by phone, beware, I forgot some of my network cables in Toronto, so I can only plug in my computer OR my VOIP box right now. So no phone while I'm online, and I can't access its voicemail. Cell is always on, so there's that.
