espilan CHARACTER-
NAME: Ashley
FANDOM: WarioWare, Inc.
GENDER: Female
AGE: 15
TIME PERIOD: After WarioWare DIY; Ashley has quit working for Wario and now works with Diamond Software, apparently running a mask shop as a side-job.
WING COLOR: Red
HISTORY:
MarioWiki article: "Ashley and Red" - Unfortunately, this is basically all there really is to go on, considering the overall lack of plot in the WarioWare series (beyond "Wario is greedy as usual"). However, it is fairly safe to assume that Ashley never really went out and did anything not seen in any of the games, instead spending her free time in her mansion just doing Witch-In-Training-y things.
PERSONALITY: Note that the majority of this is based on a variety of details in the three games she appears in, including cutscenes, her themesong, the songs and 4koma associated with her in DIY, etc. It is entirely possible that future games may invalidate any amount of what is written here.
To many people who might cross her path, Ashley is hardly a "people" person; she is self-centered, dislikes interacting with others, and will often resort to intimidation or being just plain mean in order to keep people at a comfortable distance. She prefers to spend her free time alone where she can be uninterrupted in her activities. She also dislikes wasting her time on seemingly-pointless tasks as well as nearly anything unrelated to her personal interests, and will often try to pass such things off onto other people to do them for her, whether these other people are willing or not. If she is presented with a situation where she must interact with other people, she will usually get right to the point so she does not have to do or say any more than is necessary, and she will become impatient if the task at hand begins to take too long. Additionally, she can be somewhat of a perfectionist, as the slightest hint of failure is often answered with an obvious disappointment, and she can be fairly-unforgiving-sometimes even cruel-to people she feels have let her down.
It can be assumed that at least part of the reason for Ashley's behavior is that it is an attempt to make people behave the way she wants them to; if intimidating people gets her what she wants, such as being left to her own devices, then she will continue to do so. She is not completely incapable of being nice to others, however; people who continue to treat her well enough despite her own unpleasant attitude, so long as they don't become overbearing, may be treated with some amount of respect and-dare I say it-a little bit of friendliness. Thus, maintaining any decent relationship with her is a somewhat-tricky endeavor: too little effort and you are not worth the trouble, but too much effort and you will need to back off. Any people that she does consider friends would do well to stay in her favor; she has very little tolerance for being pushed away or otherwise harmed by anyone she had grown to trust, and may not be above vengeance if she honestly feels that she has been betrayed.
Also in regards to her lack of trust in others, Ashley generally views people as selfish, devious, and potentially-dangerous. With this in mind, she feels that lies and deception are a regular part of dealing with others, and as such she is quite guarded when it comes to new relationships with people-or even existing ones-and she is not particularly willing to simply tell people about herself; she must be absolutely certain that she can trust them first. She dislikes taking time out of her day to help others, and any such requests feel like an unwelcome imposition. She is not afraid to become confrontational in a bid to convince people to take their requests elsewhere.
Her primary interests are found in black magic, masks, certain kinds of food, certain kinds of music or mocking the kinds she doesn't like, and dark humor; she could be considered a fan of
Sekaiichi Asakura[1]. Aside from the aforementioned interests, she cares very little for anything around her, and tends to make this very obvious. Unless it involves one of her interests in some way, she has no real interest in the arts, and does not display any real amount of aesthetic sensitivity. She tends to not express her emotions openly-aside from anger of irritation, at least-and is oftentimes unaware of just how exactly she feels about some things. She also prefers to stick to familiar routines, but is not afraid to change it up a bit for the sake of variety, and is usually open to trying out new things, provided there is something there that she would take an interest in.
As noted before, Ashley is self-centered and can sometimes be seen as arrogant. She believes that she has the intelligence, common sense, drive, and the self-control necessary to be succesful at any of the tasks she puts herself to, and tends to blame various outside factors-people involved, things used, et cetera-rather than herself when things don't turn out how she expects (which is honestly pretty frequent). She is well-organized and lives by her routines and schedules, often keeping lists and making plans ahead of time for the things she wants to do. Despite this level of organization, she feels that hard-set rules and regulations are overly confining, and prefers to operate in a flexible and sometimes improvised setting, and will attempt to plan for the unexpected when at all possible. Her drive for success keeps her on-track toward her goals and makes it considerably-difficult to distract her, but at the same time this drive also borders on obsession.
STRENGTHS:
■ PHYSICAL: n/a
■ MAGICAL: Ashley is a witch (in training). The majority of her magic involves alterations or transformations, like turning teachers into spoons, making their pants fifteen sizes too large, turning mere flowers into Marioverse piranha plants, that kind of thing. It's probably possible for her to start picking up on more-dangerous forms of magic, as well.
■ MENTAL: Given all the time she has spent in her home reading, Ashley might be knowledgeable on a number of obscure topics. Additionally, no thanks to her having been stuck putting up with Wario and making games for him, she knows how to do some amount of programming and will probably pick up on the journal filtering thing pretty quick.
■ EMOTIONAL: n/a
■ SOCIAL: n/a
WEAKNESSES:
■ PHYSICAL: While I wouldn't really call it a weakness, it should be noted that Ashley is a fifteen-year-old girl and has very little in the way of physical strength.
■ MAGICAL: She might be a witch, but she's still in training and thus inexperienced. Mistakes can, probably will, and definitely have happened-but the results of these mistakes are usually more humorous than they are disastrous.
■ MENTAL: While she has no problem with working on tasks she finds to be interesting, things she isn't interested in will bore her quickly and she may possibly try to find someone willing to do it for her. Additionally, she becomes impatient fairly quick if any given task begins to take too long in her opinion.
■ EMOTIONAL: She is easily-annoyed, and due to her extremely-limited interaction with people in general, will have difficulty expressing any emotions other than varying forms of irritation or boredom. This isn't to say it will be impossible for her to improve, though, and with enough effort-but not too much!-on the part of anyone she ends up interacting with, she might open up a bit. Might.
■ SOCIAL: She's a shut-in who absolutely abhors dealing with other people to any extent. Thus, interactions will in most cases be straight to the point, as to be over and done with as soon as possible. Additionally, people who are open and honest with others are largely regarded as naive idiots, due to her own personal views of people in general. However, the same disclaimer for her emotional weaknesses applies.
