Can someone explain to me how Adam Dunn makes it through waivers?
PS Sorry Annie.

He didn't. The way it works is that the teams in the players own league have first chance to claim a player, in order from worst to best record. So the only teams that had a chance to pick up Dunn before Arizona claimed him were Washington, San Diego, San Francisco, Colorado, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, Dodgers, and Houston.

Dunn's contract is up this season, so the only team looking to pick him up would be one in a penant race. The only team on that list that qualifies there is the Dodgers, who just traded for a $20 power left fielder two weeks ago. The Diamondbacks were next on the list, and they claimed him.

Er...$20 million, not 20 bucks.

now, when a team claims a dude, that just means they have a period of exclusive trading negotiations, right? and if no deal can be made, they move on to the next team? or something? i mean, if a team doesn't want to trade a guy, and he's claimed on waivers, they can just be like, fuck off, right?

Media now reporting that Dunn was claimed by several, but because of the pecking order, Arizona had first dibs.

I'm consumed, obviously.

forgot both the word "teams" and the close indent. What the hell is wrong with me?
