Something is seriously fucked up in Alaska. Stevens was down 20 points two days ago and he wins? I hope Begich has good lawyers.

Crazy like a fox. I think there are a lot of people who think Stevens getting some unreported free remodeling is a small price to pay for the tons of federal money he's shunted over to the tundra.

And for all the mockery, I bet in Alaska the internet really is more or less a series of tubes.

I am kind of interested to see him win just to find out what Congress is going to do with him. And newspapers, actually. Do they go with "convicted felon and senator Ted Stevens," or "Senator Ted Stevens, the convicted felon"?

It's so hard to choose, really.

I say "Shifty Bastard Ted Stevens" sounds about right.

My guess is that a lot of them voted with the intent of keeping the seat for a Republican after he's canned (everyone's favorite Alaska governor has the right to appoint a replacement). Which, if I'm perfectly honest, is something I'd consider doing for a Democrat in the same situation, particularly if I didn't like the Republican candidate. I'd like to think that in the end I couldn't bring myself to vote for a felon, though.

By the way, this election has made me really start to think that Todd Palin may be onto something with his secessionist ways. Let Canada have Alaska. Or better yet, Russia.

Annie by the way I meant to say that this was such a great point. I would, I have to say, consider voting for a felon if I knew his replacement would be a decent fellow. But if my whole state party was thoroughly corrupt, I would probably just vote...gasp...Republican. I think Begich is a good enough guy that enough Alaskans(I hope) may have thrown Republican caution to the wind.
