The fashion world has once again reminded me that I am not part of this culture…

After wasting the better part of a day searching for a minor upgrade to my interview clothes, I have learned that no man under the age of 40 - and no woman of any age - has even heard of a tie tack, let alone knows where I could buy one ( Read more... )

I see a lot more tie bars than tacks. Maybe GQ sent out a memo. Have you tried K&G?

Yeah man. At places like TJ Maxx, you'll be lucky to find someone who understands "Outta the box. Onto the hanger. Onto the rack."

If you want to find a tie tack, Go to Men's Warehouse like wemble suggested, or Syms, or Jos. A. Bank or any other place that sells suits that are suitable for old dudes.

Oh, and unless you're interviewing with a seriously old dude, a tie tack is pretty passé. Just sayin'.

Ditto Men's Wearhouse. I've been to them in three states and never once have they steered me wrong or failed to present affordable suits with impressively full service.

That said, the reason you don't see tie tacks as often anymore is because of the damage they do the tie. When there were more knit ties out there, you could slip the pin through the weave. Ties are almost all silk, sating or a very tightly woven synthetic, so you're almost guaranteeing damage to the tie when using a tack. Tie bars, clips and chains are much more popular and will not make you look out-of-date.
