Consider a physical hobbyandrew_the_ogaFebruary 19 2009, 15:04:07 UTC
You could take up martial arts, or blacksmithing. Although I'm more opinionated than informed about both activities, I think I can speak with some authority when I say one can spend as much time as one has free, getting better at either one, or both.
Andrew beat me to it, I was going to propose going on a fitness kick.
If you joined a gym on the west end, with the intention of going some evenings and were looking for a partner to help with motivation....I would be your man.
I've found the motivation to begin has to come from within, but it's a lot easier to continue when you have a workout partner....somebody who expects you to be there....where you'll feel bad if you aren't there and they are.
i wonder what happened to your dog, and if you kept taking bass lessons...
this is another thumbs up for martial arts. but i also endorse yoga, rambling dog walks (now that the days are lengthening) and playing a musical instrument.
do you have a console? what about Rock Band, either doing the solo tour or playing with your son?
Actually, the bass is a good idea. Some time ago, I bought bass lesson software that I've been meaning to open. Now if I can only remember where I put it...
I bet if your new hobby was a group thing, you'd stick with it and also enjoy it more. Or, at least for me, those are the hobbies that seem best at not becoming chores as they go on.

Yes, yes - I know I should have more fitness in my life, but working out at the gym isn't the answer to me.

In all truthiness, I haven't walked the dog as much as I like during this winter. Now that it has been less cold, I really should amend that thinking.
You missed all my Rock Band updates on FB. I'm a Rolling Stones Immortal, you know. Now if I can only master drums on medium...
