I think he might be saying religion is something that confines faith, and spirituality is something entirely different.

Is a christian's faith better than a jew's faith? I think not, that is why spirituality is better than religion.

I'm pretty sure someone has said this before: "It doesn't matter what you believe in. All that matters is that you believe."
