I'd totally join, as I'm a big reader, but I wouldn't be able to do it all the time, and I'm kind of afraid that the books I'd select or recommend would be offensive or too much for other people. But I've certainly got some good recommendations, as well...

I don't know about anyone else, but from your comments above I imagine I'd not have a problem. Not unless you were into seriously twisted stuff, haha. But horror & thriller makes up the large bulk of my movie collection. My books are spread over almost all genres. "Crime" would probably take up the biggest percentage, ranging from biographies to thrillers to mysteries to true-crime to classics to horror. lol. But yeah, I have some of nearly everything. =D

I've read some really good books that I'm sure others would consider twisted, I suppose. I don't read stuff, though, just for the sake of shock value...Most of what I like is creepy supernatural horror/thrillers, like Dean Koontz, John Saul, Richard Layman(who can be very graphic), and Barbara Michaels, to name a few. But I know some people that even at the mere mention of the word horror, their brain freezes up. :P

I've never heard of the latter two, but the former two I certainly have no problem with. I'm not a huge Dean Koontz fan, but I don't mind his books, and a couple have been pretty good; I've always preferred King to him, though. I've only read one or two John Saul, but I enjoyed him. I highly doubt I'd mind your picks, heh.

I'd join a fantasy & sci-fi group; most other genres aren't anything I particularly enjoy. Some crime novels are good, but the 'newer' ones I've tried to read in recent years just weren't the same as the Lillian O'Donnell novels I used to enjoy. Too much violence and pov from the badguys...which I don't like.

So, I'd probably not be all too active a member in a general book reading group.

It's okay Dem - I understand. If we do do a fantasy/sci-fi, I'll let you know. :)

My only constraint would be what I could get my hands on. I don't have unlimited funds (neither of us is working), and live in a non-English-speaking country. I have a large amount of unread books on my shelves (like, 150+) that I'd be happy to list and see if anyone would want to use any of those titles, or else anything on Gutenberg (though I am far more partial to "real" books than ebooks, I only like to use the reader for traveling, but obviously it'd be a bit much to expect everyone to limit themselves to my bookshelf, heh, so yeah). I won't pay for ebooks though, I dislike them therefore I won't throw money away on them. Only free ones.

As for subject matter, I will read almost anything aside of romance/chicklit. I'd rather shoot myself in the foot, sorry. lol.

LOL - I only read the romance when I'm feeling particularity down. For some reason, it makes me feel good sometimes.

As for books - I'll work on putting together a list of what I have to read too.

See, they'd have the opposite affect on me. They're so unrealistic that it just makes me angry/sad. Men aren't really like the characters in books. At least, none I've ever met. There's tons of characters that I could completely fall in love with, and they give women (starting from the time we're little girls reading about "prince charmings" always coming to the rescue and being so dashing & daring) these completely false ideals for men. We yearn for these -bad boys with soft insides- and -tough macho men who glare at the world and would wipe everyone off it but then fall at only our feet- etc etc, these completely "perfect" men that are in almost all books. But these guys aren't real. They don't exist. 99.9% of tough badass macho men, are truly badass pigs, just like they appear to be. And the wonderful sweet men, don't go getting into fights over their loved one's honor and kicking the crap out of dirtbags, they don't actually make sweeping grand gestures that knock us off our feet, they don't say all the right things at all the ( ... )

Oh I agree - guys like that don't exist and in truth, I'm glad they don't. Who'd want someone that perfect? It'd be annoying. That's probably why I enjoy them when I'm down - I can for a few minutes believe in the unbelievable.

As long as I get my laptop back tomorrow, I'll make the list this weekend of what's unpacked and on my bookshelf.

I would like to join! The only thing is that I don't get much reading done at the moment. In the winter I definitely would though because all I do is watch movies and read =)
