I haven't read anything for a couple of weeks. I'm in literary mourning because I read an AWESOME trilogy of books and the author died shortly after submitting the manuscripts for them to his publisher. :(
The problem is, the majority of the "classics" you have to read for your curriculum are 1) dull, or 2) MADE dull by all the bullshit analysis you're required to do on them. ^Also, this. LMAO.
God there were like, two books I had to read in HS that I legitimately enjoyed. One of them was Lord of the Flies, and the other one was Anthem (which like, EVERYONE ELSE IN MY CLASS hated and they all gushed over Ender's Game instead but UM SORRY BROS ENDER'S GAME WAS KINDA BORING).
I legit enjoyed Hamlet too but that's not a book so it doesn't really count.
Yeah, that's exactly the kind of thing I'm talking about.
I had a teacher in 7th grade who straight up did not believe that I read as much as I said I did. She gave extra credit for a certain number of pages read each month, you see, and you had to turn in a mini-book-report for whatever pages you were reporting.
Her max was like, 400 I think? You could earn EC for up to 400 pages.
I habitually read books that were 400 pages long.
She asked my parents if I honestly read that much, because she didn't believe me. That sort of attitude from teachers is absolutely ridiculous. I mean it's not like she never caught me reading non-class material during class. It's not like I was one of the slow kids. She didn't HAVE ANY REASON to doubt that I read that much, aside from "kids don't read for fun."
How ridiculous o.O I mean maybe for 4th grade (although with harry potter nowadays setting the trend, I think many kids read over 400 pages), but 7th grade? I read the full wheel of time series in 8th! Crazy teacher.
Man, I've got tons of free time and I used to read so much. Like, I would devour Animorphs books, and granted they were only like 120 pages long but there were 50 of the bastards so that's like a million pages. I need money to buy books (because fuck the library, if I buy a book I am going to damage the hell out of it) before I can start reading again.
Or I could read the five unread books sitting right here on my desk.
I agree with you so hard on this entire thing. 8| Also having a Kindle helps so when I finish a book during break between classes I can download a new one kekeke
