Don't use prepositions twice because you're trying to sound fancy.

Correct: "To whom am I speaking?"
Maybe not technically correct but acceptable: "Who am I speaking to?"
Incorrect: "To whom am I speaking to?"

The point of shoving a preposition in at the front of a clause is to avoid ending the sentence (or clause) with a preposition. Don't ( Read more... )

"Who am I speaking to?" is kinda what I'd say, but I don't try to sound fancy.

Yeah I got no problem with that. Actually English DOESN'T have an official rule against ending a sentence with a preposition, it's just something you can't do in Latin so some guys decided it should be bad form in English as well (even though it's not a Latin-based language).
