So I just got done reading the first 35 issues of the Civil War arc in the Marvel Universe. I'm really behind on the last five or so years of main-stream continuity, but even so it's a very engaging story. He doesn't need to; as of the last Spider-Man, Tony Stark himself is doing all the kicking to Peter's face.

Frankly, Parker deserves it (*GASP*, I know).
Bendis foreshadowed it two years ago; in the very first issue of New Avengers, Captain America extends his hand to Peter, helping him. By the start of Civil War, Peter has (metaphorically) slapped away the hand of that true hero (yeah, go ahead, cringe) and is instead allied with an alcoholic war profiteer.
Good choice there.

I'm a little surprised at just how big of a dick Tony's being through this whole thing. I have to wonder, when it's all over, how he's ever going to be able to look anyone in the eye on Cap's side (or Peter, at this point).
