Tonight was a good reminder of how dress and appearance affects the perception of others.

And, unfortunately, how when your dress and appearance is a little unusual, some of those others become total douchebags.

I had my cutoff jeans rolled up enough so that you could see my (b&w striped) socks over the top of my boots. One of the regulars said something about me wearing tights. Some random drunken idiot picked up on it and spent the whole night telling people that I was wearing rights and telling people to tell me not to wear tights. Despite how often he was corrected. Apparently some guys are completely incapable of understanding the concept of knee high (or OTK) socks. Anything longer than calf height is clearly tights or stockings, it seems. No matter how tall your boots are.

That and one of the other regulars proceeded to tell me that I couldn't dress the way I do there because it's too gay and I won't get laid that way. Again. Because any man who isn't looking to get laid constantly is clearly gay. My style of dress (despite the acknowldegement that things are done a little differently within my world) and my quiet civility threaten my manhood.
