I'm feeling a desperate fic-hunger. There's been some great things lately, but there's not enough of it.

I need some good, timber-textured, hairy-handed stuff about that romance of the century between Mr Bush and his wooden girlfriend. I want him fussing about the ropes coiled down properly, taking dawn watches in a gale and loving it, I want him ( Read more... )

I'd love to write moar about Bush and his saucy wooden girlfriends. Unfortunately I run up against the fact that I know virtually nothing (apart from what I've read in canon) about Age of Sail seamanship. Which fact hasn't stopped me from claiming R in the alphabet-soup. (But I may have a cunning plan.)

Hah. Pimp Daddy Bush indeed.

Any inaccuracies you can come up with will certainly not be noticed by my dunce brain. I think it's only the rare actual sailing fangirls who must be in constant pain from the wincing at my fics.

I often wonder how it is that dear dear Bush almost eclipses HH these days in keeping our tiny little fandom washtub afloat.

I swear I know very few fangirls who have the GREAT LOVE for HH alone. It is usually because he is *pregnant pause* THE BOYFRIEND of Bush. XD

As an actual sailing fangirl I can say with complete certainty that I have never once winced at any sort of seamanship related line in your fics. PLZ GOD WRITE SOME MOAR.

Well it's funny you should mention it. The Five things fic of mine definitely can't be set on the Hotspur, but I don't want it to be an AU. So now I am thinking it could be on the Sutherland, but A Ship of the Line is one of the other ones I don't have with me. (You must by now be thinking I haven't actually read anything by CSF at all, and am just some extremely good bluffer all these years - but i promise you, there's just about three of the books I lack here in the 'dam).

What I'm sidling up to here is the idea that you, lovely black_hound, send me, thehappyreturn, a copy of the e-book. How about it, dearest one? :D :D

That is at least the quickest way to getting another shovelful of the usual ludicrously slashy Bush-a-rama nonsense out of this LJ. XD

I grabbed up "F" in the Alphabet Soup-a-Thon. Mostly because FRUITBASKET starts with F. Now I have no clue what to do as I am sure that no one wants to waste their internet bandwidth looking at an actual basket of fruit. XD

And God yeah, the ITV series is really sorta abysmal in terms of being a representation of the books, but dumb-as-a-box-of-rocks Gruffudd entertaining us with his pretty curls, wet uniform, and naked bum atones for many of the script's real sins. That and PMG strutting like the cock of the walk in his uniform (emphasis on the cock) and his low-rider bicorne. OH IF THE HAD ONLY MADE IT TO FLYING COLORS AND THE CARRIAGE RIDE.

*may have to resort to the oranges and banana if an idea doesn't show up soon*

What about... Bush watching HH eating a banana.

I'm full of good ideas, me.

Robert Lindsay carries off the terrible script and blatant desire to bum HH over the map table very well. It takes a really good actor to carry that off with aplomb.
So true.

Mr Buckland appears in some episode of Sharpe playing exactly the same character, and doing it again very well.

who instead just looks pretty/mildly constipated as usual
Good thing I wasn't eating when I read this.
But the TV shows are very pretty--pretty ships, pretty uniforms, pretty men.

Yeah. I really haven't watched much of Mutiny or Retribution since the height of my adolescent "omg Ioan is sooooo hot and I love his curls and tee hee there's his bum and Kennedy makes me wail with his ULTIMATE SACRIFICE OF LOVE". But I can see what you're saying here. But really, it could have been much, much worse and I still love it despite its cheesiness. XD And like you pointed out, there is some great acting and descent writing in the series.

When I read this:
HAVE YOU NOTICED HOW INAPPROPRIATE HH IS ON PEOPLE'S DEATHBEDS? Remember Clayton? If I was Kennedy I'd call the guard and recant quick sharp at the mere sight of the dry-eyed bastard.

I DIED. I MEAN, SERIOUSLY. I was never a big Kennedy fangirl. But come on HH. You can't shed one little tear for your friend who just saved your ass? Not even a wee faked one?

It's like he's just come in to tell Kennedy what a shitty day he's had, and while he's dying there's this inner monologue: 'ah well, on with the next ill-advised and basicaly dangerous decision that will necessitate someone else's death to patch things up for me so I can go on being like the most inspiring naval officer ever born.'

Oh, I'm being too cynical now. I, too, love it exhaustively, despite everything. Be assured of that. I totally adore it.
