Hooray on moving countries! I suppose it's not so bothersome in Europe where everyone is practically neighbours. Hope all went well with your art project too.
The Aubreyad is fantastic, isn't it? Some of the stuff is just laugh out loud awesome, and it's got that light, humorous touch that is missing in HH. Which book are you up to?
I found an old piece of HH fic I haven't posted and worked it up last night. God it all still breaks my heart.

Thanks! Btw, I love this USA notion that Europe is tiny. :P But yeah, you do have vast distances... And also, I moved to Africa/Middle East. :D I live in Cairo now. Horrifically predictable Battle of the Nile fic is IMMINENT, I tell you!
The Aubreyad is fantastic, isn't it?
I can't wait to blather on about it. My god, it's good. And yes, humour. I've just finished Treason's Harbour - waiting for a package of the next few from home! No spoilers please!
Oh my! Can't wait to read it. It's not exactly fic-fic - you'll see what I mean.
I live in Australia which is even more isolated than the US. Nearest neighbour from Melbourne is New Zealand which is 4 hours away by plane.
Cairo! That's fantastic. Is it difficult to adjust? Language and culture-wise, that is?

How coincidental! mandc_read is currently reading and discussing Treason's Harbour. Okay! No spoilers. Then I guess you'll have to wait until you get up to The Reverse of the Medal to read my latest fic (that crossover I mentioned to you a few months ago)
I live in Australia which is even more isolated than the US. Ah! Sorry. I honestly thought you lived in the US.
Re Cairo, I'm going to have to learn Arabic, not exactly an easy thing to contemplate. A lot of people speak fantastic English, for which I'm thoroughly grateful, and also I'm getting a lot of French practice here. Culturally - well, in some ways it's easy (being a white expat means you're left alone from the expectations of Shariah Law and martial law) but the hardest shift - which has totally knocked me for six - is how hard it is to adjust your mental clock to a Sunday-Thursday week. It's absurdly difficult!
Then I guess you'll have to wait until you get up to The Reverse of the Medal to read my latest fic I read it just now! I am now spoiled! Exciting note: my good friend is a direct descendant of Cochrane. Can you imagine how badly I want her DNA. :D :D
Aubrey-Maturin you say? Hm. I watched Master and Commander and thought 'no, no, no' for some reason. But whatever floats your boat I suppose... :) Oh, oh: read the books. The film is lovely, and quite well done, but the books, the books... Sorry, I've become this hideous evangelist. But it took me years to get round to reading Aubrey-Maturin and I tell you, they were wasted years! Do it! Do it!
But I've managed to find my way back now, ever so slowly GOOD! I'll seek out the drabbles - can't wait.
re the birthday present. You know, just before my life turned upside down, I wrote AND beta'd your bithday present - black_hound no less - and then I lost all confidence in it and thought no this is crap... which it probably still is, and then I felt this awful guilt for not following up... so the point being I'll post the damn thing with big apologies to the world in general, and to the brilliant beta, and at least, well, yeah. Maybe there's still some fun in it for you. :)
I go on and on about the books, quite often yelling "They're so GAY!" in a cheerfull manner There is less of the gay, but lots more fun... oh, so much fun. And adventure and pain and camaraderie. Doooo eeeet!
And I owe YOU a huge apology for not following up on your fantastic beta. Your reward (dubious) of actually seeing the fruit of the work will come soon.
So nice to see you. So nice. I'm off to comb your LJ for new drawings now, and news of reenactment glory. *hugs you back*
I probably don't have either. XD One of the problems of doing artwork for a living is that by the time I get home I'm tapped out physically and mentally. BUTT, I do have a piece of 'art' well on the way as a Thanksgiving treat. *g*
BUTT Please, please please let that be a freudian slip. :D
One of the problems of doing artwork for a living is that by the time I get home I'm tapped out physically and mentally. Why are you not an inexhaustible free on demand drawing service! Why! How dare you!
We all stray to O'Brian for a while... it's like an affair, you always go back to your first love.
And please let the fic you're going to post be Blanche House. Please (I think that was what it was called but you know the one with the modern day Bush and HH with that juicy story you told me about over lunch in London like TWO YEARS AGO OMG.
Weeelll.... I posted Chapter five, and then regretted it, and privated it... I re-read Chapter six (final ch) and it was - well - nice to reminisce, but also a large element of 'what was I thinking with this series?!!'
I could send them to you if you are insane enough to want to read. I love your dedication to this bizarre cause, by the way.
