Oh, wow. YES. That is beautiful and painful and true. It's Hornblower.

Thanks for reading this - I find Hornblower the hardest one to pin down, so those two words are VERY reassuring. :)

You simply wished he was not dead.

Fiction bears truth. You steal it away and make it beautiful.

*hearts you*

You simply wished he was not dead.

You what though, I really, really do wish he wasn't dead. Embarrassing when you think he's, er, a fictional character, but still. I *still* read those books praying that someone's going to turn up saying 'Sir! There's been a miracle!' or that Bush'll come sailing over the horizon on the Witch of Endor. So, we all know how HH felt.

I'm so glad you liked how I dealt with it!

(Here via black_hound.) I'm sniffling away like anything, and it's been years since I've even been in this fandom. I think it was this line that did it for me: 'It was uncalculated and unglorious. But certain. Like sowing a bulb in midwinter, the assurance of life at the bleakest moment.' Such a strong and simple image.

Oh. Gosh. You know, the bulb in midwinter is weirdly important to me for unrelated personal reasons (sounds silly but it's true) and I'm SO glad this caught you. Really: it means a lot. So thanks. :)

Does this mean you'll come back to HH fandom by the way? I wish there was a HH fandom pressgang, that's all. :D

Much more of a watcher than a participator, but it may well happen. AoS generally was my first internet fandom as it happens and you meet the nicest people there.

It's so true. AoS is my first and only fandom and I've always felt super welcome.

I've been drifting my way slowly back to AOS fandom, and I believe you have now pulled me back in completely. What a gorgeous, contemplative piece--I was hooked starting with the title and loved every word thereafter.

You should check out the art work that the title is taken from. I can't believe I didn't make a fic from it earlier, really. :D

I'm so glad you liked it and that it brought you a bit back into fandom. Maybe we sometimes need a fandom pressgang - get us out of all the gin shops and whorehouses of real life and back into the, er, navy.

*giggling at the idea of a fandom pressgang* Maybe I should run another alphabet soup?

*butts in*

YES. YES YOU SHOULD.

The last one was LOADS of fun and ginned up a bunch of great new stories.

Thanks for stopping by! Yeah, I've only just started trying the second person, I think it's very good in small doses. :)
