Christmas!
It's that time of year when you can legitimately ask for stuff, and people might actually give it to you. And then you give people stuff and hopefully they like it.
sarlania 's meme makes this function easier. Other people with lists: starrylizard, draugdur, YOU if you want one.
THE RULES
Step One:
→ Make a post (public, friendslocked, filtered... whatever you're comfortable with) to your LJ. The post should contain your list of 10 holiday wishes. The wishes can be anything at all, from simple and fandom-related (fics, graphics, etc.) to medium (books, dvds, etc.) to really big (computer, house, pony!, etc.) The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
→ If you wish for real life things (not fics or icons), make sure you include some sort of contact info in your post, whether it's your address or just your email address where Santa (or one of his elves) could get in touch with you. [Note: Your home address is not required!]
→ Also, make sure you post some version of these guidelines in your LJ.
Step Two:
→ Surf around your flist (or friendsfriends, or just random journals) to see who has posted their list.
And now here's the important part: If you see a wish you can grant, and it's in your heart to do so, make someone's wish come true. Sometimes someone's trash is another's treasure, and if you have a leather jacket you don't want or a gift certificate you won't use--or even know where you could get someone's dream purebred Basset Hound for free--do it.
You needn't spend money on these wishes unless you want to. The point isn't to put people out, it's to provide everyone a chance to be someone else's holiday elf--to spread the joy. Gifts can be made anonymously or not.
There are no guarantees with this project, and no strings attached. =)
So, My List
1. Anyone who is more or less out of Hornblower fandom, to give it another go. Re-read a book, re-read your favourite fanfic, join in with some squee, watch the Naked Deck Shower ... fannishness is a facetious muse, and if Hornblower truly just does nothing for you any more, then fine. But if there is anything you can actively do to stimulate it, give it a go.
2. HH/WB. In any way, shape, or form. XD
3. Send a PM or post a comment in the journals of someone on your flist whom you don't really talk to but really enjoy their fanworks, and let them know how much you enjoy it. (stolen from sarlania - it's a nice one).
4. Volunteer to go on a list of people I can legitimately look up for advice and help via LJ messenger/PMs/email when making fanvids. I'm desperate to try, and am waiting for that thing known as 'holiday' when I could give it a go, but I know I'll be tugging at people's sleeves and do not want to wear down anyone's patience. I promise I'll try not to abuse your generosity.
5. My new job involves a fair bit of 'entertaining' and it's coincided with an enormous drop in foodie imagination. Your favourite, simple and delicious dinner party recipes please! Preferably with ingredients available outside the US, and extra points if they're veggie/healthy, though this isn't essential.
6. Read one of my fics that you haven't read before, and comment/leave constructive criticism. (stolen from sarlania). But not a WIP. I beg you not a WIP.
7. Inspired by anteros_lmc , I'm having a Characters That Don't Interest Me Armistice. Lady Barbara, Maria Mason, Kennedy, Matthews and Stiles... pique my interest in a meta post, be as evangelist for them as I am for HH & WB.
8. Post me some HH prompts, imagery, fic ideas in the comments. Things you'd love to see written, things that intrigue you, bits and pieces and notions you can't get out of your head and would like to see woven into a fic. Anything to get my muse to work again.
9. I want EVERYONE to do this! (not breaking the meme rules at all whatsoever). Nominate - in the comments - YOUR favourite Hornblower fic/fanart/fanvid that YOU made. Tell me why you love it and are proud of it. No modesty allowed.
10. And again, EVERYONE. Nominate in the comments a fic, vid, piece of art that you love, in ANY fandom. I rarely explore other fandoms, and it's hard to know what is 'good' when you know nothing about the canon, so I am curious.
