amsterdam

The name of my favourite piece of Belgian musical misogyny, and my least favourite city in the world. I'd rather go back to Basingstoke than Amsterdam.

But, what a song. So what this is all building up to is that I think someone should so write an Archie songfic about this song. We can move 'Amsterdam' to Kingston or something. It feels like ( Read more... )

Omg. Brel almost made me cry over my lunch. This is too perfect and too awful. To me this conjures up a bitter LKU with Horatio off at sea doing the heroic stuff and running from what he can no longer face. Leaving Archie stranded in port trying and failing to distract himself with the local whores and seeking solace in the bottom of a bottle. Oh and it'll all end tragically. *sob*

Couldn't do it, couldn't write it, too, too sad. One for esmerelda_t perhaps?

On a completely different note, this is a waltz, it's most obvious in Scott Walker's version. I am going to take this to our tango club next week and I'm going to dance to it!

And finally...if the Tiger Lillies haven't recorded this yet they really, really, should.

Right, back to work!

It's electrifying, isn't it?

YES it's remarkable how only Walker plays up the time signature. I only noticed it's a waltz when I listened to his version. And I love the thought of you bringing this amount of angst to a tango club. XD

Stunning

Heh, tango lyrics are all about angst! Even the upbeat ones are utterly miserable when you translate them. So this is perfect!

Just got round to listening to these.

The Brel one was ruined by the goofy translations, I find that's quite common when songs are translated into English though. There's an Israeli pop song used in the film Yossi and Jagear that I love...but in English it's the most cheestastic thing you've ever heard.

The plot bunny this brought to my mind though was Archie, alive and bitter thinking that Horatio abandoned him on one side of the world and Horatio on the other, equally bitter at having lost Archie to death.

Awww no, the goofy translations made this for me!

That's even more bitter and twisted that my original plot bunny! I'm now on the case with a slightly different plot bunny. Damn house hunting is getting in the way of fic writing tho ;)
