Seriously, you all have a lot of DVDs. Me, I just have my HH boxset, my LOTR extended, La Commune Paris 1871, Hairspray, and a single season of Peep Show (which, if you don't know it, YOU MUST WATCH THIS VERY SECOND IT'S AMAZING AND ADORABLE). And then a bunch of art works which don't really count.

Small questions:

- Do you think anyone ever ships ( Read more... )

Hairspray, of course!

I often feel there's an important analysis to be made comparing Hairspray and La Commune. They're both about emancipation, they're both about the people's control of the media ... and that's it.

Or, wouldn't it be brilliant if Tracey Turnblad turned up in the middle of the seizing of the cannon and started this massive 'vive la commune' song and dance number?

Maybe it's just me.

RE #2 The only one I can think of is the Hornblower Companion - which I've only browsed through and not read from cover to cover.

Thanks. :) I'm looking for more personal bio information, though.

There is a bio of CSF. I believe it is an autobiography. HOWEVER, CSF's son has had lots to say about it. All negative. That basically his father was a huge liar. XD The relationship between them was seriously strained so his remarks have to be taken in that light, but still ....

Not a bio but an interview... Just back from another lunchtime trip to the fantastic Panopticon bookshop where I picked up a 1951 Reprint Society edition of Mr Midshipman Hornblower. What's nice about it is that as well as having the original dustjacket it also comes with the May 1951 World Books Broadsheet which includes a short interview with CSF. It's not massively insightful tbh, he complains a lot, but I'll transcribe and post it later in case anyone's interested.
