Friendly's -- "you bet we are"

Today I worked my first shift as a waiter. I wasn't very efficient, of course, but did pretty well overall I think. Except for table 22... they were a problem. Despite my best efforts to be polite and perky while tending their table, I seemed to do everything wrong, and piss off this one woman more each time I tried to fix whatever she was annoyed ( Read more... )

People can be real assholes. That sucks man! Did you tell them you were new? that can make a big difference. They'll know you aren't careless, just simply new to the job.
I'm sure you make a fine waiter Ben! you go rock that restaurant! yeah!

The idea of "rocking" friendly's is rather unappetizing. That's the kind of thing they put in the "seven steps of service" goal.
I'm glad you commented. Oh and no, I didn't tell them I was new. I thought about it, but decided not to. When I was waiting on that table I realized one important thing though, which is that my only obligation to be curtious and friendly to customers is the work stipulation between me and the manager, which is not a moral agreement but a financial one. This means that if anyone is bitchy enough me I might tell them to fuck themselves.
Generally I think I'll like the job.

I wonder if the Seven Steps of Service is like the Four Stages of Selling (Greet, Qualify, Offer, Close!).
