I don't know where you got stopped, but I got stopped in Framingham once and got a huge ticket. I
went in to court and the cop didn't show. I asked the judge whether I had the right to face my
accuser. He said yes, but that the way he ran his court was as follows. If I wanted to challenge
the ticket on the grounds of the cop not showing, he would find me "liable" or whatever the term is
for guilty in traffic matters, then I could appeal it, and if the officer didn't show at the appeal, then I would get off. He wasn't going to drop the fine based on the officer not showing up at the
original hearing. I did appeal, but then I never showed because I was busy with other things.
So that's how they do it in Framingham! By the way, if you get a hearing at, say, 9:00, don't show up at 9:00 or you won't be seen until like 11:30. Show up at 8:00, because they take people on
a first come first served basis, even though they don't tell you this!
I feel your pain about the speeding ticket dude.
