Animals usually represents yourself, typicially the untamed and wild parts of yourself. As it doesn't move when others are around, it might mean you hide your raw/wild self from others and only when alone do you let it out. Sometimes, your own wild side scares yourself, to the point that you question if you are really a bad person (ie sinister).

the logic behind your theory is good, and this is definitely the best interpretation i've heard yet, but i'm still not convinced. i feel like lately i'm the least evil i've been in like a decade, so anxiety over my own poor morals, at this point, seems unlikely.

Perhaps that's why it has shrunk. You became aware of it, and after confronting it (ie talking to others in your dream) it has shrunk but still exists. Now you're undergoing the search for where your demons lie, since they are no longer obvious as they were before.

If you have been at your least sinister mycroft, isnt is fair to say that perhaps the anxiety is resultant from recognition possibe future, misdeeds?
