So much has changed, and yet will ever be the same. Driving rusty-red-rough paths straining to summit lush earth-gouges shaped in fire Steve knows too well.
He demands, he begs: make me understand.
Hard truths, all-consuming wishes, things flaying them raw, bleeding. Secrets shouted-begged-sworn in silence in a mirror.
An ocean's worth of words when they fall silent in the rattle-rattle-bump of the road, breathing promises that cost no Judas kisses.
Miles to go before they sleep, but it's a knife freed from flesh to know side by side or an island apart, they will not lie down alone tonight.
