The Most Noble And Ancient House Of Borgia - A Hogwarts AU

Jun 06, 2011 00:10

Every fandom needs a Hogwarts AU, even one as fledgling and tiny as that of the Borgias. Between Mimi (mind_conundrum) and myself, we've devised the beginnings of one. Involves not!fic, actual fic, and currently substandard art.

Warnings: Incest. It is the Borgias, after all.

How The AU Started.

A few days ago, I was lying in bed, musing on my favourite big fucked up family, The Blacks. I was also in the beginning of the throes of my Borgias love. And all of a sudden, the two collided, and I had a fully formed ‘verse in my head. And in the middle of the night, I dropped the following rant into the ask box of the only other Borgias fan I know, Mimi.
-
So the Borgias are this old, pureblood family, akin to the Blacks, but they’re not all that big on the whole ‘pure’ thing; Vanozza is a muggleborn, of course, how could they be? (This detail has since been revised) And everyone of them is a Slytherin, naturally, cunning and ambition define the Borgias. Everyone else is kind of confused as to what a sweet girl like Lucrezia is doing in that house, but she wouldn’t have it any different, since she’s close to her brother there. And there’s always been rumours about incest in the old families, with the obsession with purity, but there’s never been this much evidence before.

Rodrigo’s angling for Minister of Magic, and wants Cesare to have some high up job in the Ministry, but Cesare hates the theory of magic, he wants to use it, he’d far rather be an Auror or something. Juan’s a little shit about blood purity, he’ll hex you the moment you bring up that he’s halfblood. He’s edging towards future Death Eater-dom, which Rodrigo isn’t massively thrilled about, but that’s what most of the powerful families are into, and you have to play the game, don’t you? Which is why he’s encouraging Lucrezia to be friends with the other kids of powerful families, like that creep Sforza.

Even if Cesare hates all the Dark Lord shit, he doesn’t want to serve anyone, he’d still rather know dark magic than not, he needs to know everything he can, so he can protect his family, and they’re more important than notions of magic having any inherent morality. Which is where Micheletto comes in, he knows all of it.

And Ursula’s some Ravenclaw bint, right? Her family are power hungry, though she’s not pureblood, so she ends up dating this dick who messes her around, and she sees Cesare who’s this relatively nice, powerful Slytherin, and ends up romanticising him. But she’s not prepared for him breaking out dark spells on her boyfriend, so she freaks out and leaves him. Which isn’t so bad, because Cesare was really only using her to distract himself from Lucrezia’s irritatingly noble crusade to aid their father by dating Sforza.

And Then Mimi Wrote Actual Fic

People whisper.

(“Of course they whisper” murmurs Cesare, as his hand slides up her thigh)

They are Borgia, ancient and noble, bad in the blood. People compare them to the Blacks (of course they do), but they are different. The Black’s have aspirations of grandeur, when they are truly rotting from the inside out, meanwhile Borgia is as strong as it was five hundred years ago, when Muggle & Wizard like knew the name (and feared it).

People whisper about Cesare and Lucrezia.

(The Hogwarts’ rumour mill loves them both, dearly. They will keep them more occupied than James Potter and his friends ever could.)

Incest, they hiss.
Petrificus totalus, she hisses back.

Whore, they hiss.
Sectumsempra, he hisses back.

They whisper about Rodrigo.

(“How many votes must we buy in the election, brother?”
“You are very well-informed, sis. Perhaps, dangerously well informed”
“You know me, Ces,”
“I do, Crezia, I do.”)

But most of all, they’ll never expect their wildest rumours to be not even close to the truth.

(“Do you love me, brother?” Crezia asks him one day, curling a lock of his hair around her finger.
“To the point of madness, sis” he replies, pulling her on for another sweet, forbidden kiss.)

And The Following Supplementary Flailing Occurred
Me-

'I’m not sure if I want Vanozza to be muggleborn or halfblood. Because I initially saw her as muggleborn, but the Borgias are inevitably related to the Blacks (and since everyone of the appropriate age is someone’s cousin then we get Bellatrix perving on Cesare (and Lucrezia?) in an appropriately incestous way.

‘Cesa, dear cousin -‘

‘Don’t fucking call me, that, Bella.’

‘Oh I’m sorry dearest, that’s little Lucrezia’s name for you, isn’t it? Pretty little thing.’

And as such if Vanozza was a muggleborn, Rodrigo would probably be counted as a blood traitor, and rotting as the Blacks are, he still needs their support. So Vanozza is halfblood, but it’s kept hushed up, because her mother was the muggle so she has a pureblood surname. Juan’s still a little shit about it though.

And Then I Did Some Art At 3am With No Reference

This is based mostly off the concept that Lucrezia was historically a master poisoner, and would therefore naturally be excellent at potions.
