Have you tried directline? We ended up going with them because of their acceptance of someone with no previous UK driving history, but I think I am paying £220/year for my smart for full coverage, I am not sure if I have a no claims bonus or not as heidi handles all of our insurance having previously been an insurance counciller in the US.

I lean towards the Smart because I love mine, as you said, slightly impractical because of the low cargo volume, but it gets around 70MPG and it is fun to drive.

I know it's not much help right now, but premiums do tend to drop a little when you turn 23.

Oh, I can live with that much, especially given that it'll drop - I just don't want to pay massively over the odds because I've not looked around.
