You get what you pay for.

Every now and then, I go and do something incredibly stupid.

This would be one of those times.

I got "attacked" by a stranger's dog, today.

No, really.

I, a person who has educated herself about canine behavior since she could read, got attacked by a dog for the very first time, today.  This morning ( Read more... )

Oh yes, I agree - I call animal control when I see them because I don't want some jackass to hit them, but I normally have nothing to do with stray dogs. If this one hadn't been so damned friendly, it would never have crossed my mind.

I have an indoor cat. Dogs smell funny. Keeva is clearly a badass. That is all I can say.

Cats make me sneeze. Dogs do smell funny. Before she's a badass, Keeva is a very silly puppy who REALLY likes plastic bottles.

You really shouldn't blame yourself, its the fault of whomever let their dog wander unsupervised. Yes its possible it got out, but its also very likely that its owners just weren't paying attention. You are a very careful person and did everything as best as you possibly could. It is neither your fault, nor the dogs, that your eyes accidentally met and chaos happened.

Its okay to feel sad, but you shouldn't be angry at yourself for trying to help. There wasn't anything you could have done differently, if you hadn't tried to help, it might have gotten hit or attacked anyway. At least now its relatively safe and even if something DOES happen, the owners will be able to find out and won't have to deal with not knowing.

Ok, so this is like three weeks late, but it really did set my mind at ease a bit. Part of the problem was the sense of failure I felt - I knew exactly what to do and how to do it, but I still managed to bugger it.

Anyway, the dog was released this weekend and its owners came and collected him... hopefully they won't be jackasses and put him down themselves.

Despite their size and looks, I've heard that cocker spaniels can actually be quite nasty. One bit my brother once when he was little, because he rode his bike past its yard. Perhaps King Charles Spaniels aren't so different. But any dog can bite!

Hoo boy, cocker spaniels are BASTARDS o.o I have met, like, two who did not instantly try to take a chunk of my flesh out.

But yes, any dog can bite. that's what makes me so angry about how the press handles dog bite cases... they completely portray them so arbitrarily.

(ps - I know you're on vacation somewhere fun (or at least I think you are?) but we (I) could use an "Indigo's exotic travels!" update!)

I got back Monday morning, but I've been dealing with mountains of work and a nasty sunburn that makes it hard to do things like lie down and wear clothes. But tomorrow I'm planning on a massive update!
