i11. g9. b7. no its not bingo. these are the few empty seats available at the UGL computer lab. i think its pretty funny. these are the dead days at the university of texas. the computer lab is now open 24 hours and its probably going to stay near max capacity for the entire duration of finals. its time for finals and everyone should be studying. WRONG. everyone is at a PC (or if you own a pair of horn rimmed glasses, an iMac). a13: checking gmail. c4: hearts online. a9: fantasy football (i despise you peyton manning!) a16: myspace on one tab. livejournal on the other. constantly clicking refresh. everyone else: AIM. so why are we all at our computers? why are we surfing the web, when we should be wasting our time studying? my best guess? it's comforting. everyone is stressed out, as careers are beginning (or not), bills are coming in, and grades will soon be decided. we all just want to make a connection. a connection to anything. to a bbs. to a band. to a fantasy sports league. to complete strangers. to your best friends. im looking at my buddy list. im not talking to anyone, but its nice to know there are people out there possibly in the same state of mind. just online to be online. to feel safe. to know that encouraging words are just a double click away. i am the same as everyone else in here. ive worked maybe 2 problems for space dynamics, and id rather talk to haley or james and update my journal (which i havent done in months). yet, i dont feel too bad about my lack of motivation. ill probably stay here all night - partly because i have alot of work ahead of me, partly because they have a T3 connection (great for trailers), mostly because im in a big room full of people unknowingly connected to one another.
