Hi, new to this community but not to fic in general. Here's a one to start out with. Not my main pairing but it just kinda came to me.
Title:Secrets
Author:unrequited1984
Disclaimer:Not mine, wish it were, but it's not
Rating: PG
Summary: Zach has a secret
Warning:Metions of slash hopefullness. Zach/Booth, but not really, and Booth/Brennan kind of. Read and yee shall understand. Oh and another warning, is un-beta'd cuz frankly I didn't have the time and I don't know people in this community yet so all grammar mistakes are mine and unintentional.
Title: Secrets
Disclaimer: Don’t own it, want it, but don’t own it
AN: I know this is totally AU, and that there isn’t a chance in hell of it ever coming to fruition. I don’t know if I’d actually ever want to see this happen in the show. But I thought it might be an interesting story to explore, so enjoy.
Secrets
Zach had a secret. Oh it wasn’t as if it having a secret was surprising in D.C., but for Zach it was a new experience. In college it had been his roommate, Shelley, who he told everything to. She had once told him, “Zachey-boy secrets are bad for your health, and they sit inside and fester. Tell at least one person when you have a secret and you’ll save your own life.” Before that he had naively thought that he should tell his parents everything, and that they in turn would do the same. That was when he learned that his mother was having an affair with the mailman and that his father was squandering all their money on the stock market, thank god for scholarships that took him 3000 miles away.
Now at the Jeffersonian he had plenty of people he could talk to, Angela was always willing to lend an ear, Hodgins too as long as you realized he would tease you for it later. And Dr. Brennan, while a little clueless when it came to non-scientific things, would try her best. But this was something that he didn’t think any of them would understand, and no amount of prodding was going to drag it out of him. And they all knew that something was up, how could they not. He had become nearly invisible inside the lab, leaving the room when anybody else entered; only talking when cornered and forced to reply. He hoped no-one noticed the pattern that he was sure was as blatant as daylight. That when a certain person entered the room, he would draw in on himself even more, would make absolutely sure that even his breathing couldn’t be heard.
He had had crushes before, and had never really enjoyed the experience. To have a feeling that you can’t control was directly against how Zach lived his life. Yet here he was, with a crush, and on the worst person possible. He sighed as the person of his dreams walked into the room and he scurried out, God not only am I gay but I have a crush on Agent Booth.
Zach harbored no dreams that his feelings could ever be returned, as two things were blatantly obvious. One: Seeley Booth was not gay, and two: Seeley Booth was in love with Dr. Brennan.
Zach was so busy staring longingly at his unrequited crush that he didn’t notice Angela coming up beside him and sitting down, “He’s cute isn’t he.”
Startled by the voice his head turned quickly to face the artist, “What? I have no clue what you’re talking about.”
Angela chuckled to herself, if Zach thought that he was being good at hiding his feelings he wasn’t. Pretty much everyone, including Booth, had noticed that suddenly where Seeley Booth was Zach Addy wasn’t. But if the room was big enough that he would look longingly in the direction of the agent. Yesterday Booth had approached her and asked her about the grad student’s odd behavior. He had been a bit taken a back when she had told him, “Go easy on him, he has a crush.”
His eyes had widened, “A crush, on me?”
She had nodded and explained that while it might seem weird that she was sure that Zach had no intention of ever acting on his feelings, and that it might be best if he just let Zach avoid him. She had told him that she’d talk to him, not to worry, and wasn’t Brennan waiting for him in the lobby to go to lunch. With the reminder that he had his lady scientist waiting he thanked her and hurried out of the lab.
Back in the present Angela put an arm around Zach’s shoulder, “Yes you do Zach. Agent Booth, you like him.”
He shook his head, “No, I respect him for the job he does and for protecting Dr. Brennan. That’s all, why else would I like him.”
“Because he’s tall, dark, and handsome, you’d have to be crazy not to be attracted to him.” She had no clue if cornering him into a confession was going to work or not. In all likelihood Zach was about to bolt and she’d have to do clean-up for this little chance later.
He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, “Crazy, yeah that’d be a good definition for it. Crazy to feel this way when there is 0% chance of ever having my feelings returned. It’s crazy to watch him everyday and wish that just once when he talked to me he saw more than a freakishly smart kid. Crazy to keep hoping that one day I’ll meet someone that can even come close to him. And finally, crazy because you are the first person I’ve told that I’m gay and we’re in the middle of the lab and everyone is going to know by tomorrow and I’ll have to leave on account of embarrassment.”
She hugged him, “You are more than a freakishly smart kid, you are a handsome man who has a lot to offer. And you will meet someone, someone great who will return your feelings and you’ll wonder how you ever loved someone before them. Booth is great, if unavailable, even to females who are harboring the same feelings you have for him. So just remember him as an unattainable dream and work on finding your perfect someone. You want to go out tonight, just for some fun? I actually know this great place downtown, a coffee shop that serves hot lattes and hot baristas.”
He didn’t want to, he wanted to just stay where he was, looking at Booth. He wanted to keep thinking about him, because even if it was a bit depressing just looking at him and knowing the looks would never be returned, seeing him could bring a smile to his face and brighten his day a bit. He didn’t want to let go of that feeling; then again who said he couldn’t still have his Seeley colored spot of sunshine and still have fun with Angela. “Sure, let’s go. I’m done here for the evening anyways.”
“Great, let me grab my coat and we’ll go.” She left the table and he gave one last longing look at the special agent who would always hold a special place in his heart, though he hoped that spot would grow smaller with time leaving room for others.
As he and Angela walked out of the lab Dr. Brennan turned from her conversation with Booth to tell them to have a good night and Zach could of sworn that Booth was actually smiling at him as he said, “Night squints.”
With a new openness in his heart he left the Jeffersonian ready for a new start to his life in D.C., a city with one less secret in it.
AN 2.0: This is where I would usually beg for reviews but I’m not going to. Why? Because I know that if I did reviews for every fic I ever read I wouldn’t get to read half the stuff I do. So I’d feel kinda hypocritical begging for reviews when I don’t always give them. You liked it and want to tell me, cool. You didn’t like it and want to tell me, that’s fine too. Don’t kill me, but I don’t get inspiration from reviews, I get inspiration from the show, and I’ll keep writing, or not writing, whether you review or not, it all depends on whether the show gave me good ideas or not. I don’t own any small animals that have cages that need to be lined with flames so flame away if the moment takes you. That just means that I touched you in such a way that you had to comment, and hey if it was in a bad way I still made an impact. Hope you had fun with this, cuz I sure did.
