what is guard going to be like without nick from now on? i have NEVER had a guard season without him as an instructor- the closest ive come is going to a week-long camp lol. i have to say that huf will not be the same without him, much in the way that st pete highs guard was never the same after him. my guard experiences will never be the same when ( Read more... )

Memories... half_blue May 6 2005, 04:25:17 UTC
I still cant beleive Nick is leaving. When I heard him say that I was cast into this surreal dreamlike state from which I have yet to awaken.
Its hard for me to put into words exactly how much of a positive influence Nick has been in my life.
If it wasnt for him I dont know what gutter Id be lying in now if I were even alive enough to do so.
I wouldnt know any of whom I consider to be my best friends today. I would have zereo self confidence. I doubt Id still be here if he werent such a great person.
You said to add more memories of him if we knew him well enough. But I think I just have too many to even begin listing.
And Im going to have to stop writing this before I start crying...
Too late.

I love you Nick. We all love you. I would be noting now with out your guidance.
I wish you and John the best wherever you decide to go in life. And I hope I will always be with you, because you will always be with me.
I will miss you and will never forget the impact that you had on my life.

isnt it crazy how much of an impact hes had on ALL our lives? to be honest, it still hasnt really hit me... i cant fathom the idea of walking into rehearsal weekly without him standing there asking me what time my clock says =P. i really dont think id still be in guard without him, and if i wasnt in guard i wouldnt have any friends or awesome memories. but hey... i want to make something for him with everyones comments and memories about him on it... will you try to root out a few of the funnier/more meaningful memories? id really appreciate it.

We should throw him a going away party or somethin.
Round up as many guard members that he has taught as we can.

Party at my house!
My mom did say that I could have a guard party here whenever I wanted ;-)

Spread the word.

lol, but which former guardies does he like other than andrea? kristin haire, fred, and michelle? haha... i think its a great idea to give him a party- when is he leaving? when he told us at the banquet i couldnt comprehend his news fast enough to hear when. how about a summer BBQ? if not at your crazy moms house then at fort desoto or something. if you do happen to talk to fred though, tell him the news and tell him to post a comment on my lj so i can get something together for nick with as many memories as possible.

Oh yea and I forgot "I like how Jordan is sitting quietly..." XD
"YOU DON'T KNOW WHO TERRI SCHAIVO IS!? Jason! You need to watch the news man!"
"OH come ON! $20 for the both of you. I wanna see some action!"
"Jason! Just one count later than you think you should!"
"Praise the Lord!"
He gave me a French Horn mouth piece! YAY!
"HAHA! Bethany thinks it's funny because she's 14!"
"Shower buddies..." HELL NO
"And here's everyone's phone numbers. I matched the font to their personalities."
"Jason...." What? "...........Yur gay."
While driving in Polk county "Oh another lake! I think I've seen that one before."
"Gi high school"
"Doesn't Nordstrom remind you of Zander?"
And driving ALL the way to Lake Mary for our Gainsville competition Nick had Bethany and I stuck on a god damn Riddle that we STILL CAN'T FIGURE OUT! "A man walks into a restaurant, orders rabbit. After he takes one bite of the rabbit he steps outside and shoots himself."
Nick I'm going to stoot YOU if you don't tell me the answer before you move!

I don't know how I would have survived through my first season of guard without such amazing friends and amazing staff. Let's face it, I was pretty damn hopeless! But the first practice I went to for HUF I remember Nick inviting me in even though he saw how much I sucked at the time. I felt welcome, for the first time in Winterguard. And it was the one thing that boosted my confidence as a perfomer, Nick always had something to say so where I didn't feel like a total loser. HUF will NEVER EVER be the same.

i cant even tell you how much i agree with that- nicks best
guard instructor quality was that he would never turn someone away from his guard just bc they didnt know anything yet... my first year i was in 8th grade, crying at EVERY rehearsal bc i just couldnt get it and thought i sucked. if not for nick being there, telling me how good i was getting and how hard i was working and how valuable i was to the guard, i would have never gotten to the point i am at today. i would have never touched a rifle or sabre, i would not have met eric and janel, i would not have the amazing memories i do. youre right; he never dished out criticism without compliments... even when you drop a single on your foot with t-rex free hands and the wrong footwork- you would always hear from him "your expression was dead-on!" lol. <3

"dogs ass, do it again!" - "history of urban foreskin, you may take the floor for competition" - "listen for the tempo change" - the janel excecize for 5 minutes straight - "your such a drama queen" - "I want it 10 times in a row just like that" - 12 hour rehersals, rehersathons - how he would describe the incestuous story lines behind opera peices on the way to rehersal - all that crayz weird music he listened to - how he would work us to death but have us laughing the whole time (prolly my favorate thing about him, at rehersal atleast) - "david, do something cool! that wasnt cool, i said something cool." - how when i frist started he thought i would be the one in the guard who would never be able to catch a single on rifle with both hands - how he was my chauffer to and from rehersal - he was the only adult that i could actually hang out with and carry on a meaningful convesation with, to me he was like a father and mother fugure ;-) more memories to come as I think of them. Im too tired now ( ... )

I feel like an outsider, not being in HUF and all. But, Nick did instruct me my freshmen year, so here we gooo!!

I'll always remember how Nick got so into our show, and how we could all feel how much he truly cared about all of us. He was so emotionally involved that it made other people want to also be that involved and excited about the season. Nick is a great guy, and I really can't think of anything I can say to him that will make him feel all warm and fuzzy inside, so I shall stop writing! lol..

Butttt, one memory that you didn't include would have to be..."Guys, don't wear your converses anywhere besides guard practice!" .."Nick, you don't have to worry about that, AT ALL!" : ) good times!

I hope this helped, Jodi! Dang, it feel so weird to be an outsider!! lol...Peace out, HUF!
