So I've knocked out the movies, now it's the CD's turn.
Here are my choices for best albums of the year, in no particular order...except from 10 to 1 with 1 being the best.
#10) The Roots / Rising Down
- The Roots pretty much always deliver and this was easily the best hip hop album of the year and not coincidentally, the only hip hop album to make the list.
#9) Beck / Modern Guilt
- This was had to grow on me and it took awhile for it to do so. But it grew and blossomed, and just deal with the gardening analogy por favor.
#8) Black Diamond Heavies / A Touch Of Someone Else's Class
- A band you really have to see live. The CD doesn't even come close to how they sound when you see them perform, but it's as close as you're going to get.
#7) Gnarls Barkley / The Odd Couple
- Granted, not as good as St. Elsewhere, but still a damn good album.
#6) Vampire Weekend / Vampire Weekend
- God I hate their stupid, stupid, stupid name. But damned if they didn't make a pretty amazing record.
#5) The Sword / Gods Of The Earth
- The Sword are awesome. That's all you need to know.
#4) The Black Angels / Directions To See A Ghost
- No sophmore slump here, The Black Angels deliver more psychedelic stoner goodness.
#3) Elbow / The Seldom Seen Kid
- What an glorious album and the song "The Fix" with Richard Hawley was my single of the year.
#2) Grupo Fantasma / Sonidos Gold
- Almost as good as seeing them live, but just almost. And if this doesn't make you shake your ass, you don't have one.
And my best album of the year goes to....
#1) Wovenhand / Ten Stones
- David Eugene Edwards will pretty much always get the top spot whenever he releases an album, it would have to be something truly spectacular to knock him off the pinnacle. And this year, nothing could.
