Talk To Me
Your Opportunity to Opine
[x] Please give us your rendition of the word bitch: Generally, I take an apathetic stance towards the world. Like many other, I think the world is going to hell in a hand-basket and there is little being done to prevent it. I tend to just watch from the sidelines though all the while avoiding reading newspapers and watching the daily news (other than Jon Stewart). I actually started out as a Political Science major, however, I quickly found that those who take Political Science generally tend to be arrogant, strongly-opinionated, close-minded, jerks who will argue about anything: precisely the people I often try to avoid.
My main rendition of the world though is that everyone is inherently selfish and people rarely deviate from said innate quality. Every action an individual performs has an underlying selfish intent whether it appears that way or not. For example, if one were to help another carry their groceries into their apartment for them, on the surface it would seem as though that person was being helpful and kind. However, the selfish intent comes from the face that when it's over, the recipient of the assistance will no doubt thank the helper with some form of praise, therefore boosting the ego of the helper and making them feel good about themselves. So, it isn't really a question of whether the person is being selfish (we KNOW there is an underlying selfish motive), but rather it's a question of does this person possess the restraint to hold out and achieve the long-term reward (ego boost and praise) instead of the short-term reward (doing nothing, therefore preventing any sort of muscle strain). Ultimately, there is an underlying selfish motive in every human action.
Bleak outlook on life? Sure. Profound pessimist? No. Realist? Yes.
[x] What is your stance on abortion?
Pro-choice.
I'm am not religious in any way, shape or form. Sure, it's the person's fault and responsibility if they're the one that got themselves pregnant, but it is also the responsibility of that person to decide whether or not they will be able to provide that child with an environment suitable for growth. Also, at the time of abortion, the fetus can be considered to be "alive" in the most basic sense of the word, but it cannot think yet. It only possesses the most basic of motor functions.
[x] What is your stance on substance use, substance abuse, and the banning of substances?
Alcohol? Alcohol is fun and has the potential to stimulate some very interesting conversation. I enjoy drinking from time to time. Drinking to excess is the fault of the individual choosing to engage in the activity. It is the responsibility of that individual to ensure that they don't go over-board. *cough*Darwin*cough*.
Drugs? I work with drugs everyday in the lab. Enough said? Probably...but I'll say more. Again, responsibility is with the individual. I take the position of one of my Biopsychology professors on this issue. I believe that substances should be made legal for the simple fact that there would probably be a reduction in crime. If all substances were made legal, drug prices would undoubtedly decrease, therefore theft and robbery (for drug-money) would be reduced (but not eliminated entirely!). Also, the government could tax drugs, just like they do with alcohol, therefore decreasing the amount of money spent on the "war on drugs". Additionally, the sheer taboo aspect of the concept of doing drugs would be greatly decreased, so there would most likely be a reduction in the amount of addicts. This last scenaria, however, would not happen right away. It would probably take a lot of years before it would happen.
[x] What is your stance on the state of world affairs?
There is too much money being spent on war and not enough money being spent on minding their own fuckin' business. Also, see previous responses.
[x] What is your stance on gender and sexuality equality?
I am an advocate of equal rights but I definately don't believe that men and women are equally qualified for any job. Why? Simply because I'm majoring in Biopsychology and have a firm knowledge of the differences between the sexes in regards to brain structure and personality. Also, I'm getting very sick and tired of gold-digging women who fight for equal rights to their death, but will claim that it is the man's job to pay for the bill, approach the woman and buy her drinks, have the well-paying job, open doors, etc. It's a contradiction in character. Now, this isn't to say that I won't do any of these things for women, but if she still firmly believes this crap, then bitches about equal rights, you'd better believe I won't be taking her home with me.
And, yes, the same thing goes for men with this similar mindset.
