Hey theju! Congrats on your cooking! You should also try a few easy rasams.. its very easy to make if you have your mom's rasam pudi.. take it from me..I started cooking only a couple of months before you did. And I've tried this home made instant avalakki and such.. its really good.. next time you come down I will pass them on to you. One thing I've realised, don't get discouraged the first time you try a dish.. practice really makes perfect :)

Yes Rasam is probably the only thing that i have been unsuccessful in spoiling :-p . i soon realised that i have a hidden talent for spoiling good food - when i think everything is perfect i burn/over do/forget to put something or the other. Once i was preparing the easiest of all - avalakki and everything seemed perfect until i decided to burn the peanuts into charcoal ;-), then i decided that i was really talented :-p.

Ho yes - as long as my room mate does not threaten to throw me out of the room i will continue cooking. about practice i guess i have already become perfect in screwing up perfect things :-p

Finally, bond has time to post:P

Shape of pooris or chapathis is dependent on the experience and interest you have in it. Most of us are more interested in eating than making them, so the above mentioned result;)

Less salt is a great idea. You can always add more salt to your plate, but reversing it is not possible:D

He he that is the excuse i always give but the fact is that i cannot make out the difference between dish with proper amount of salt and dish with less salt!!

I guess for people like us unless we are left alone, we will never enter kitchen.

He he - i always thought i was assisting my mom in kitchen whenever possible - now i realise what ever i was doing earlier was nothing compared to what she had to do after i finish;-) . It is like i was booking the tickets for the bus and she was doing the actual trekking!! Now that i have realised my talents i guess my mom will be happy with me not entering the kitchen:-p

I agree with the first comment. Patience is required to prepare food. But its very much needed for cleaning all the mess created! :-)
