So I watched this for the first time in a while today:

HOW DID I FORGET HOW GOOD THIS IS? Seriously, it's almost up there with Holy Matrimony and definitely number two in my top 5 list. It further proves my point that Team Rocket are not really bad guys and are actually intended to be good guys in their own ridiculously elaborate story that just so ( Read more... )

like this, i'd rather write pointless things, although i need to go to sleep

Thanks. I get so much crap for being a Team Rocket fan... but honestly, Team Rocket got me through high school. Just imagining I was one, and someone who was a part of a bigger whole trying to make things happen, no matter what stood in their way, gave me the courage to get past so many of the rough times I had.

I know it's so cheesy/borderline otakukin, but I would totally join animeverse TR given the chance. Not just because of Jessie and James, but because there seems to be so much solidarity (even Butch and Cassidy, or Bashou and Buson, who are supposed to be the *really* evil ones, are super close and best friends) and loyalty and pride within it. It's always been so much more than a typical criminal organiztion for me, and I don't think I've ever been inspired to the point my life was changed the way Team Rocket in general has inspired me. I love finding people who feel the same way I do about Team Rocket and Pokemon.

I do too! It doesn't even seem like there are that many people within the Pokemon fandom that like them that much, much less many fans that like the organization (especially the animeverse organization) as a whole. It's not just an evil organization, it's kind of like a family (but not in a creepy mafia way). As for me, I've wanted to join ever since I first saw the show when I was six and was kind of devastated when I got old enough to realize that that's kind of, you know, impossible. I wouldn't be who I am today if it wasn't for them and I mean that in the most sincere and least cheesy way possible

Also, your icon is epic, epic win.

TR is awesome and win. Well, not the sort of "win" they want to be, but they win in our hearts.

Jessie and James are total win. The animeverse organization as a whole is total win, too. I'm still so pleasantly surprised that they managed to get that much out of the (rather generic) game one!

I definitely enjoy TR as characters for a few reasons, but I do wish that their gimmicky MOTTO thing would've stopped a lot sooner. "Go West Young Meowth" is one of my favourite episodes.

I don't think Ash and the others were given much of a backstory because you follow them directly through the whole series. And really, what kind of backstory is there to offer Ash? Ash was raised by his eclectic mother and leaves to go on a Pokémon journey -- The most defining feature of him as a person -- A journey which you the viewer, follows him through. Ash is making his backstory.

As for why everyone is so sure James is gay is because of the little things. He does seem a little fruity for sure and seems pretty apt to cross-dress! In an episode they had them switching through disguises and every time, Jessie was the masculine role and James was in a skirt. No, cross-dressing =/= gay, but you know.

You've got a really good point about Ash there. The writers did do a good job of actually showing him grow as a person (and Pokemon trainer) throughout the series. You're absolutely right - there's hardly any backstory we could have been given for him anyway, unless they'd wanted to go into family history or something like that. I'm still confused about the lack of backstory for Misty and Brock, though... the show lets us know that things have happened in their past, but never takes that far enough to explain anything about them. To me, they came across as kind of generic, 2-dimensional sidekick characters instead of more realistic ones simply because they never got explained very well. It'd be nice to know why Brock wants to be a breeder and why he's so desperate for a girlfriend, or what exactly motivated Misty and her sisters to train water Pokemon. It wouldn't have to be an extensive character-defining episode like Go West, Young Meowth, either - just a little bit of a look at them as characters ( ... )

Team Rocket will always be #1 to me, too. Nothing against Ash and co. but they just pale in comparison
