I'm a good writer.

There, I said it. I'm more than comfortable wallowing in my failings and I'll be the first to knock myself down a few pegs, but not when it comes to my skills as a writer.

Because this is my gift.

It's certainly the most pronounced one, the one that almost never fails me. And, yes, there are times when I swear it's all I've got.  ( Read more... )

i read the press release.. really good work and i can see the nuanced writing style of yours.. i think one of the edits MUST have been that your boss edited out Sammy Rabbit because no Arab-Christian peace day article is finished without him...

You should meet our PR person! She rules with an iron fist. She is the expert and she lets us know it. And judging by the press coverage we have received sense she came on board, she is more often right than wrong. Obviously, you need job like that where you get the final word on what's in and what's not.

The point she often makes - the press release is not the article though it should set the tone for a subsequent article. It is the teaser to the press to inquire and write their own story. No journalist worth his or her salt would settle for merely reprising a press release without further inquiry and an attempt to put the essence of the story in his or her own words.

So perhaps you needs to be a journalist, so you can take other folks poorly worded press releases and make the final story one that informs the audience even as the words delight them.

But, of course, even journalists have editors (sigh)...
