i'm not as aggressive.  i try not to boast to others about my presence in the same manner that i used to.  it's probably a decent gesture, far less rude, that i'm no longer spitting my name at them and blowing

Answer: No. Not everyone uses the internet as a viable way of contact, a lot of people are reluctant to reply to messages because of negative reactions or sheer laziness. But that doesn't mean they aren't your friends. It's more a comment on the superficial core of the internet.
