Scooping broken things up her arms, then run her palm through the edges with the intention to smooth it all and fill the cracks only to have her skin torn in the process, is what Sooyoung does in her daily life.
Droplets of red liquid filled with oxygen and passion will fall and she will hold those things she named as 'beautiful things life cast away' in her other hand which is still untouched from harm.
She leaves the other to stop itself from pain or to wait for some stranger or loved ones who cares for her enough to stop their time and wrap their tender heart to fix her wound from fixing lost souls, unhinged from reality.
Mingyu has watched her countless of times doing this, getting her heart tangled between feelings she should only listen, not feel. He also has done the comforting, countless of times that whatever things that happen to her patients, it's not her fault for she gives her whole heart in whatever things she indulges herself in.
"I don't want you to lose yourself in them," I don't want to lose you to them, he reminds her again, Saturday afternoon after she finished her call from one of her patients, her laying to his chest by the couch. "You should not let your feelings get involved with theirs. They won't be able to do anything if you become like them," he tries to get his words into her mind again, fingers skirting her midnight hair, cutting thriugh the tangled tresses, letting them free and coil around his fingers, twirling them around.
"My job is to make them believe in themselves again. It's my job to be involved with them," her back sinks to his chest, her fingers drawn around his. The calm persistence is there, it's always been.
He twists his head to have a proper look at her from the top of her head. No luck. A sight of her upper lip and her long eyelashes is what he gets.
"I know," he nods, even though she can't see him but she must've known from the tone of his voice, attempting to understand and his body follows in suit. "But you are a unique case. You're too involved most of the time, you take things into a personal level and it's not healthy."
Amongst the short free time they have for each other, between tight work hours where he draws structures and blueprints to create worlds and suspenders for living surroundings and she consults people with their problems regarding their thoughts and how they hurt and twist them from the inside, she'd go on and on about them; her beautiful, broken people. He is one of them too, perhaps, one of her solved cases.
He still helplessly believes that she has realized he has his own shadows of hurtful thoughts too and all this time, she just pretends to not see them.
It's not jealousy, or perhaps it is. It leans more to his worry of her breaking cold sweats on midnights and seeing her rustling beneath their sheets restlessly.
This is what makes him feel that she won't be able to make a choice, between him and her dream. It's harsh to have her choose one between the two, but he wants to know. Often she's too caught up in living her achievement of a lifetime to notice that he is one of his dreams to, molded into reality. He has kept himself awake in his dreams of her.
As silence spins around them, his thumb rubs on her wrist circularly, he wonders if he is to ask her hand in marriage with her current state, will she accept him?
This is it. This is the right time.
"Sooy-"
Her phone rings. Picking it up, she ends up scrambling to her feet and walks off to their room and reappears again in a flash, suited up for another out of the blue meeting with her patient outside of her working hours.
She leaves him again to his own, sighing with a kiss on top of his head and "I'll be back by six," and glancing up at the clock, it's barely 3PM.
He attempts to shrug off the fact that she didn't listen to his words. He shakes away his thoughts; those dangerous, insecure thoughts that he will always be second in her life even though she comes first in his.
