Clinking of spoons and forks against plates. Three people sit at a table near the window, a man and a woman on one side, and another man on the other side.
"So, Sehun, how's work?" Soojung asks to the man across her.
"It's great." She looks at him upon his answer, eyebrows lifting slightly. "Yeah, well, it's... okay. Still trying to get used to the pace." He re-answers.
She does something between a smile and a tiny laugh.
"How are you and your girlfriend?" Jongin asks him.
Stale. Boring. Crap.
"Oh, we're good. We're doing pretty well, actually. Found the perfect time to video call every several times a week."
Jongin nods.
"That's good, then. Must've been hard having the one you love be thousands of kilometers away from you," she says while putting a piece of steak in her mouth, "not to mention the time zones and all..."
Sehun just gives her a tight-lipped smile.
Not as hard as being only centimetres away from her.
"Hey so you're living with just a dog now, then?" Jongin asks him, mentioning his pet dog.
"Yeah. I got much more romantic with her these days, two of us watching chick flicks on Saturday nights and all." He jokes, trying to shake off the feeling of unease approaching him.
She laughs, he laughs, Jongin laughs.
"I miss that ball of fluff. So sad that I haven't seen her in such a long time," she says, smiling, her eyes indicating that she's reminiscing.
Memories come rushing to him. Of walks in the park. Of messy washing times. Of finding a tiny dog in a box decorated with ribbons on his birthday.
Wrong. Missing someone is sadder when you see them and they're beyond your reach.
"So, when's the wedding again?" He asks.
Jongin smiles. "In around... 3 months," he reaches and grabs her hand, "my parents and Soojung’s have agreed on the date and have booked the place. You and your girlfriend can come, right?"
"Yeah, of course. That's around christmas right? We'll definitely make it. I mean, we'd have to, right?"
He starts saying too much unnecessary words. He is torn; between wanting her to catch the sarcasm so she understands to keep a distance from him, and wanting her not to catch it and continues to act as if nothing is wrong.
3 years after it ended. 963 days of running away. 30 minutes and 30 centimeters, and he is back to square one.
