Half a Halloween

Oct 31, 2005 21:03

Well, things didn't work out quite as I hoped tonight. On Sunday I woke up with the chills, a sure sign that I was getting an FUO--"fever of unknown origin." They usually make me feel like a wrung-out washrag, even if the fever goes away quickly. I had NO energy to work on a pumpkin this year, not even the plastic carveable one. In fact I did ( Read more... )

We don't really do Hallowe'en here in Australia... a few kids go round, but the costumes are usually fairly sketchy and they're only in it for the eats.

And I usually forget to have candy (or lollies) available. Well, one year I bought some, but it was a bad day at work and on the way home I sorta - well - ate the lot...

Oh, it's a very big thing here, at least in this part of the country. I suspect it's not a lot different over most of the States. Of course we were blessed with wonderfully warm weather tonight. A lot of the parents who were out with the kids were in shorts and T-shirts long after dark. There were some really fine costumes out wandering the streets this year, too.

I'm hooked on one kind of "lolly." Tootsie Roll Pops. I love them. I don't know if you have them in Oz--they're basically a gob of Tootsie Roll, which is a kind of gummy chocolate candy, attached to a stick and surrounded by hard candy of various flavors. My favorite is cherry. You are supposed to lick the hard candy, or suck on it, or whatever, until you get to the chewy center, but I don't. I just crunch on in as soon as I've licked enough of the coating. Not something to do without strong teeth...::grin::

Actually not good for me at all, being a diabetic, but sometimes you just have to be bad.

I'm glad you got to go out on Flicka! I know you were really looking foward to it. *grin*

I love Halloween, and I was so excited that we had a LOT of Trick or Treaters. It's been so long since I've lived in town! And they had a LOT of candy, too. This is apparently a great neighborhood for going door to door.

Oh, yeah, we had kids making out like bandits--their bags were getting full by 7:00, and the night didn't even begin going full swing until 8:00. Of course by then we'd run out of candy. If I do this again next year (and I think I will) there's going to be a LOT more candy in Flicka's basket.

Well for it starting out rough, glad you were able to get out with the kids. Sounds like you did have fun - I'm glad. We got some kids (6-12), in fact at one point tpeej and I were sitting watching TV and the doorbell rang. She turned to look what was chiming trying to figure it out, not realizing it was the doorbell and knowing there wasn't anything behind her that would chime like that. I didn't dress up at all, was wearing pjs for handing out candy.

Hope you are still feeeling good and that you handled be out good. As for new HP movie - I can't wait. I finally got all the books read (posted about HBP on my journal) - and enjoyed them all.

Glad it was successful and that you know you'll need more candy. It's good that you have a safe area like that but bummer about the sidewalks and lack of curb cuts. You would be a good one to let the city know - since Flicka is the only way right now you can get around.

Still feeling pretty good. My back is a little stiff, but I've been having problems with that anyway, even before the Flicka ride, so it's not really connected ( ... )
