In the case of one girl named Kim.....

Sep 20, 2006 16:40

Well, maybe I shouldn't call her a girl.  She isn't really anymore.  But I haven't seen her since she was a pre-teener, a skinny kid who had her mother's wiry build and her father's fair coloring.  Her father being my half brother, which makes Kim my one and only actual niece.  Now, I've kept track of her as an aunt should, even and aunt who isn't ( Read more... )

Oh, God! Of all the things you didn't need, the twin pieces of family drama were right up there with another hospital stay.

I'm sorry to hear about Kim. I'll keep her in my prayers, and I hope she gets home safely. I'd really like to see Shrub impeached and the Republicans booted out of the House and Senate, but that belongs in the realm of wishful, if embittered and enraged, thinking.

As for Pam, good Lord. ::jaw hits the floor:: Not only is her response to you rude, it sounds like she's getting everyone in arm's reach to do her dirty work for her. Let me know if there's anything I can do--I know some other people who are having trouble with fundamentalist relatives, and who came up with some interesting ways of shutting them up.

(Well, aside from having someone go to their house and glue their teeth together. That would cost too much money.) ;)

I'm so glad to see you're feeling better!

Heheh...my Email allowed me in long enough tonight for me to read the response from Scott. I forwarded it to you for your entertainment. If you have any cogent points to throw back at his fundie thinking I'll happily take pointers from you. You are one person on whose bad side I NEVER want to be. You can filet anyone with words so efficiently the victim never knows he/she is being taken down until his/her head falls off.

May be awhile before I can answer, though, depending on how soon my Email comes out of its latest swoon...::sigh::

:D Oh, sweetie, you just made my evening. ::hugs::

I just took a look, and . . . oh, my Lord. I don't see how you managed not to roast him alive. I've seen some patronizing piles of BS before, but this has taken the cake! And really, comparing fundamentalist religion to the fundamentals of engineering is like comparing goat turds to watermelons.

Well, the Email is acting better now, so I've been mentally planning my response to Scott the Wonder Brain. Roasting him alive would be satisfying, but his mother IS my sister's long-time friend, and I'd really rather not put a permanent rift in their relationship by opening a virtual can of whup-ass on him, no matter how much I'd feel really good about it.

This will take awhile. I learned the game of out-politing the opponent while making a quiet move on the jugular a long time ago. Let's see if I still have it. I'll blind CC it to you if you're interested in seeing the next round.

I will pray for your niece in Iraq. *crosses fingers for a bit of superstitious luck too*

On the issue of responding to the letter, I'm glad you did. It is when people don't speak up, assume that the majority will see the light, well, it is then that we lose our freedoms. Feel free to speak up regarding the Telecommunications Act with your representative and senator too! LOL. I often lose friends because I will not tolerate intolerance. The one thing I cannot forgive in anyone. Everyone has a right to be different from the majority. If no one speaks for them, what will happen to those who are the minority? I'm pretty sure Hitler proved the point, neh? It is my belief that you deserve a laurel wreath for bravery in not allowing a family member to espouse such a view without letting them know they were wrong. It is too easy to say 'let me not make waves in my family' and let it go.

Hmm, that laurel wreath is clashing with my devil's horns and my halo--see, I cover all my bases...::grin::

You know... I haven't looked here for quite a while. Boy, am I glad I did! :) Kris, sorry to hear you were in the hospital again but glad to know you're back home. And you've gotten into a "Religious Discussion" (that was said with sarcasm, in case you didn't hear it) with a Fundamentalist.... ROFL! That's my girl!

Sorry to hear about Kim. That really sucks. I would also be worried sick if it were my neice, and I guess I am anyway since it's your neice. For politeness' sake (as well as space), I won't get into my personal views about Iraq. *twitches uncontrollably for a moment*

Anyway, I'll have to keep a closer eye on this. Hugs, Lady! Luv, Tao

Hey, lady, I didn't know you got on LiveJournal.

Yeah, I got into a pretty "lively" discussion with a Fundie. Don't know what happened to that kid. I thought we'd helped to raise someone who could use his brain for better than mindlessly spewing out the words someone else fed him, but the more I read his letters the more I realized those weren't his words. He came across as a very glib puppet.

Haven't heard anything about how Kim is doing over in Iraq. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that I don't see her name on the KIA list they show at the end of one of the Sunday morning news programs. Whenever that list comes on, Sis and I stop and read the names. They may not be anyone I know, but we owe it to them to at least read the names, and the ages. So young--so many of them are just kids who have no business being out there getting killed for a cause they likely don't understand at all.

I have a feeling my opinion of that cursed war is in step with yours.
