It seems that the latest fashionable thing to do these days is to adopt an orphan from Africa. So much so that Sis and I couldn't resist adding to our own African foster family--yesterday we fostered another child, this one a poor little baby girl elephant, only four weeks old, who was lost to her family when she fell into a well.

Gads, I've been keeping an eye on CA, the elections, and . . . >>choke!<< Ah-nuld! Who'da thunk he'd actually be leading a Democrat for governor? It looks like he finally learned a little political savvy, and like you I give credit to Maria. The men might be screwups, but the Kennedy women tend to have more brains.
And this just made my stomach twist: the man who survived is so badly burned that the merciful thing would have been if he'd died too. If they get their hands on the asshole who started it, I hear they're talking murder charges. I hope it sticks.
You and I both. Mom suggested something involving chains, kerosene, and a blowtorch, but we all know that wouldn't work. For one thing, gasoline is easier to come by . . .

I think your mom has a good idea, but we could refine it a bit. Slow roasting over an open fire comes to mind....

It has all the info on Lesanju's rescue and LOTS of pictures. You could tell even if you'd never seen an elephant in your life that she's an infant. She's in several pictures with a couple of young boys (human kind) and even next to them, she looks tiny. Those pictures are kind of sweet, though. The boys seem so tender to the new baby. Those kids are being raised right.
Further adventures to follow. Keep your fingers crossed for our little girl. She needs all the luck she can get.

Sis and I had a sit-down tonight to finalize the pumpkin design and start priming the surface for gluing. Tomorrow (Saturday) is going to be arts-and-crafts day around here. Last year I didn't feel up to doing the pumpkin, but at the last moment I did load my carcass onto Flicka, put on a witch's hat, and cruised the neighborhood (well, okay, a long round-the-block, actually) as a Mobile Trick or Treat Station. I went around passing out candy to people I met along the way. That was fun. This year Flicka is staying in the barn, though. Since I'm not going any farther than the driveway I'll stick with the chair.
Yo, ho, yo, ho, a pirate's life for meeeeee....
