An Eventful Day

May 29, 2005 18:35

Yesterday (Saturday) was the first time I"ve been out of the house and NOT going to the hospital for a doctor's appointment since I got sprung from the place in February. I'm walking pretty well now, using the walker, and got myself out of the house to the back porch where the wheelchair ramp begins outside my door. I wanted to sit down by the ( Read more... )

The hair-matting sounds like an awful ordeal. I don't think many people really understand how much scalp pain can affect the way you feel all over, but I had a chance to understand it when Mom got bitten by black widows on her scalp.

I have to admit that when I read about your sis taking a pair of scissors to your hair, I thought, "Why not use a mat comb?" Then I realized that would be a hell of a lot worse, with the possibility of removing your scalp instead of just the tangles. (Sometimes I'm only stupid for a few seconds. It's a good thing I rarely act on these blank flashes of idiocy, or I'd really be in trouble).

Anyway, congrats on the haircut--it sounds cute! I think you had rather longish hair the last time I saw you. :)

As for the scooter, that's great news. What kind are you getting, a Lark? Good luck on the financing; I'm sure the credit union will take care of it for you.

Hugs, and get your sis to take you to Disneyland with her,

Jr.

Black widow bites on her scalp!?! Yeesh! How awful for your mom.

When I got shingles back in college, I got it on my head, running from near my temple and up into my hair line. I thought I was having some kind of brain aneurysm, it hurt so bad.

But black widow bites. Ech. Irrational fear of those bitches.

Wow - you did have an eventful day - and good deal on the scooter. That is great.

Gald tohere you got into your sisters car and are walking with the walker - that is also great.

Keep it up.

Little bits of progress add up, right? Just riding in the car was a real treat. And it was amazing how many things have changed in the last year that I had no idea of until I could see them for myself. I feel like I've been in a time vortex for a year, and just now emerged to see what's new.

Those litle bits definately add up. I'll bet a lot has changed and I'll bet it's feeling good to see and do what you can. I think that is great.

Hey Kris! Great news all around today: Haircut to make you feel human, a scooter to make you feel independent, and the thing that thrilled me the most for you... walking all the way out to the driveway! This is a major accomplishment... so is leaving the house for something other than the doctor.

The first time that Mom made it all the way to the car with her walker, she started to cry when we got her in the car--both from exhaustion and success!

Congrats on that, and on the scooter. I think it'll be a great thing.

Yeah, I haven't walked nearly this far with the walker before, and getting into the car meant dealing with a hill, too--our house site up above street level, enough to be a pain in the butt sometimes. Now the scooter takes that hill without even flinching, but going DOWN using a walker is a challenge. But it worked. Now I can go places without having to seize the wheelchair van from my dad.

I need a name for the scooter. I give everything names, and this definitely needs one. Gotta think about that.

Kris--That's wonderful!!! :D There used to be a guy at my office who used a scooter, and it really made a difference in his ability to get around. I'm so happy for you!

Yeah, I plan on using it as much as I can. It'll go 25 miles on a charge, so I can really get around town if I want to.
