A Short Update (what, me short? Never....)

Jul 23, 2005 07:00

Okay, here I am, after more than a week offline. Did anyone miss me? Guess what happened. The thing that always happens at exactly the wrong time. My hard drive went bye-bye. No warning, nothing. Is there ever? After a call to Dell tech support to confirm what I already knew in my gut, I need a new hard drive. But, there's this sticky ( Read more... )

Hey! I did wonder where you were, actually. I had just started to worry you mght be ailing, so I'm actually glad it's just the computer. You know, all things being relative. :)

Welcome back. :)

Yeah, I'd rather that it was just the computer, too. And at least I do have my old back-up here to get online, even if it is slooooow compared to what I've gotten used to. It works.

Yeah. I'm trying to write/edit a first person book wth a defective "i" key on ol' bessie. I finally gave up and went to an old PC laptop that has been sitting in my closet--Mom got it from work ages ago, but when she left, it was old enough they didn't want it back. It has no modem, no ethernet port, and no software more recent than 98. But it has Word, and a functional keyboard.

What's funny, though is my bopping back and forth between computers when need to look up something on the internet. I feel like I'm such a technogeek! And I feel very luck to have t as a back up!

Good luck on Monday.

I've been thinking about you during our little spot of Hell-on-earth. So you'll be back in the hospital again? Yeesh. At least you'll have a chance to catch up on Harry Potter.

I'm sorry about the hard drive, and horrified (but not surprised) that the computer firm in Northern CA tried to extract an arm, a leg, and your organs to reclaim your data. :( Have Kathy go to the local rec center and see if they keep copies of Computer User magazine. It's a free magazine that carries ads from computer stores and services in the area. It's how I got my new system (which I haven't hooked up yet).

Take care, and I hope things improve soon.

Oh, it's been hot here in Torrance, too, much worse than we're accustomed to. I have a fan pointed right at me from close range and I can feel a definite temperature change between my upper and lower halves depending on where the fan hits. We've been leaving my back door open (dad put on a screen door to keep the critters from walking through) all night because I need the extra air, even in the middle of the night. And we're better off here than in most of the region because we do have some sea breeze coming through ( ... )

yep - missed you.

Geez - bummer about the computer - if you lived closer to me I'd gve you the name of my computer guy - he could do it (but he's here in Redding - far northern CA). At least you got something that can get you online - even if it is dial-up.

Well, gee - getting blood - I feel for you - not that I've had to receive but I've given a lot up here while I was working for a blood bank.

LOL - understand about the Harry Potter - I'm about half way thru the first one (ok so I hadn't read them before and got it lent to me when I mentioned it - LOL).

Way kewl on Flicka - nice break in for her and she got to see the mouse (love that mouse - LOL). Hope the 50th Anniversary was good.

Glad to have you back. And I didn't email anything while you were gone.

I'm glad you're a blood-giver, because I'm a habitual blood-taker...::grin:: I feel a little guilty about that, but what can I do? They insist on giving it to me, after all. And they literally have to open a vein sometimes to get it into me, so after all that trouble I really can't say no. Well, actually, my sister had them read off the numbers to her and she agrees that I do need it, so really I don't have a choice. She knows where I live and I have to sleep sometime ( ... )
