I just realized that I never made a single journal entry in September. My bad. I've been here, just not too visible. But I thought I'd check in now
( Read more... )
Hey. I used to qualify my "complaints" as being not that big in the scheme of things, but you know, all that matters really is your scheme of things. Yes, there are people who are homeless and struggling, but it doesn't change that you are dealing with very real hardships yourself.
That said... perspective is good, too. :D
I liked Commander in Chief, largely due to Geena Davis. Its nice to see Kyle Secor again, because I loved Homicide so very much. My favorite new show is "Threshold." I'm really liking both the stories and the characters. I thought about "X-files," too. "Nightstalker" was a disappointment to me, though it's not the worst new thing I've seen, so I might give it another chance. (I adore the original... which was the inspiration for Maggie Quinn, the heroine of "Prom Dates"... so I had high expectations.)
I also like "Bones" which comes on opposite NCIS, and right before "House," another great show. Tuesdays takes coordination of the DVR. And of course "Lost." Is that my fault? :D
I was JUST getting into "Firefly" when they canceled it. Adam Baldwin is just SO cool as Jayne. Joss must love him. After Firefly got cancelled, he showed up on "Angel" for a very brief stint, which was also very cool. Boreanaz is, of course, why I'm giving "Bones" a try. The premise is cool, the series needs to find its rhythm a bit.
"House" is great because of Hugh Laurie. Period. His character is just dreadful, and I know I'd hate him if I ever met him, but geez, I love watching him. I can't believe that's the same actor that played the foofy Prince of Wales in Black Adder.
And yeah, I love Sawyer. Which is weird, because usually I like the more boy scouty characters, but Jack can be so self-righteous. My FAVORITE character though, is Locke.
Yeah, Locke is a mystery wrapped in an enigma. He keeps your interest, no doubt. I feel sorry for Jack sometimes. He's the de facto leader, but he sure doesn't want the job. And my sister is infatuated with Sayid. I have to admit, so am I. His gentle nature is so at odds with what we know he's capable of doing. And Kate even keeps me watching--she's another character who has a lot of layers.
Adam Baldwin is da bomb...::grin:: I've always liked him, ever since I first saw him in "My Bodyguard." I wish his career would take a real turn for the better. He's never QUITE made a breakthrough, and I think he deserves it. Maybe "Serenity" will help.
That's what 20 minutes on high in the microwave can do to an innocent sausage....
Oh, my God. ::bursts out laughing:: That reminds me of the first time I tried to cook chicken. I marinated two quarters in tequila and garlic, and then cooked them for an hour and twenty minutes. Can we say, dry as toast? I knew we could. ;)
How long has it been since your dad's last exam? :S I don't know how easy it is for you to mention, but a quiet hint might help . . . "Um, Dad. Nice lunch! Really! I never knew knackwurst could bounce that high before!"
Oh, Dad goes to the doctors all the time. It might not be so much his eyes as that I think he just doesn't pay attention to little details. My sister has told him a hundred times how to re-heat food in the microwave, and he still asks her again the next time. He did the same thing to my mother for years, too. It's the Helpless Husband Syndrome.
Hey, the dog benefitted from it, and now we know what to do the next time we leave a hot dog too long in the fridge and don't want to chance eating it. Make a doggie Slim Jim out of it....
Glad to see you posting on your journal again. Bummer about getting sick - but good that your able to get around and that you got your trach changed - tho not great coughing up a lung and bloody discharge (tho I have seen the discharge with two different clients that have trachs - one is 7 yrs old). Sounds like an interestiing time with Dad. But good for dog with the food - LOL.
Oh, I plan a full post-Halloween report, maybe even with pictures if I can get my sister to take some with her digital camera. Pictures of my annual pumpkin, that is. I don't settle for the traditional type of carved pumpkin. I have people in the neighborhood who make sure to drop by every year to see what I've done this year. The last year that I did it, it was Nemo with three sharks and a ring of dolphins around the lid that cast cool shadows on the ceiling above our front porch. The year before that was Lilo and Stitch. The local kids talked about my Darth Vader pumpkin for YEARS afterward
